Gwendolyn Kephart Booher, 89, of State College died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born March 27, 1925 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Mary (Skelton) Kephart.
She was a 1943 graduate of Philipsburg High School. She was a graduate of Juilliard School of Music and of Lock Haven Teacher’s College where she received a Bachelor of Science in education majoring in English.
She taught at several schools in Pennsylvania, including Altoona and Tyrone and also in Scotch Plains, NJ.
She was affiliated with the State College Christian Church and a life-long member of the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, where she played piano and organ from her freshman year in high school to graduation.
On June 16, 1948 at the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, she married Richard W. Booher, whom died June 6, 2014.
She is survived by three brothers, William Kephart and his wife, Mary Ann of Rineyville, Ky., Donald R. Kephart and his wife, Elaine of Chester Hill and Thomas G. Kephart and his wife, Nancy of Beaver and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and beloved son, Richard W. “Ricky” Booher.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Fowler officiating.
Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
