John D. “Hoagie” Kennedy, 68, of Philipsburg died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec., 1, 1946, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Kasper) Kennedy. On March 9, 2002, he married the former Susan Dunsmore in Philipsburg. She survives at home.

Mr. Kennedy was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen Association Inc. and the American Legion Post No. 6 and the Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189, both of Clearfield.

He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5020 of Osceola Mills and the AMVETS Post 159 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3450, both of Philipsburg. He was a life member of the BPO Elks No. 1173 of Philipsburg.

He was first employed as a mason with his brother’s masonry company.  Then, he was employed for 25 years in construction and as a fish culturist with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission until his retirement in April of 2007.  He was a 1964 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three daughters, Krista Joyanne Kennedy, Jennifer Ann Kennedy and Erin S. Beish and two brothers, William “Zero” and Karl “Tweet” Kennedy.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian G. Beish and his wife, Brea of Philipsburg and three sisters, Joyanne Kennedy and Marilyn Slother, both of Philipsburg, and Christine Horner and her husband, Stan of Hagerstown, Md.

He is also survived by three grandsons, Nolan “Buddy B” and Lucas “Highpockets” Beish and Everett “Jimmy Cricket” Kennedy Maska, all of Philipsburg; three brothers-in-law, Robert Dunsmore and his wife, Joann of Spring Hill, Fla., James Dunsmore of Lakeland, Fla., and Thomas Dunsmore and his wife, Beth of Philipsburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and one nephew with whom he was especially close, Rick Kennedy and his wife, Erin of Nahant, Mass.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev Robert J. Way officiating.  Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A BPO Elks memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.
