Obituary Notice: Helen E. Gluczyk

Helen E. Gluczyk, 94, of DuBois died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at her residence. Born Jan. 1, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Sterzegar) Doktor.

On July 12, 1942, she married John V. Gluczyk.  He preceded her in death.

She, along with her husband, owned and operated Gluczyk’s Market on the corner of West Long Avenue and Ridge Street in DuBois for many years.

She was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where she was a devout worker for the Polish Festival and church decorator for many years.

She enjoyed artwork and gardening winning numerous local awards for her talent at both.  She attended art classes at Penn State University DuBois into her early 70’s.  She loved to play BINGO.

She’s survived by three children, Darlene Potash and her husband, Daniel, Gary Gluczyk and his wife, Susan and Linda Smollinger, all of DuBois, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, three grandchildren, Bryce, Brittany and Bradley Smollinger and two infant sisters.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.

Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Thomas ‘Jack’ O’Dell, 85, of Clearfield died Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Altoona Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 11, 1928, a son of the late Harry Jasper and Beatrice (Dunlap) O’Dell.

Mr. O’Dell was employed as a die setter for McDowell Manufacturing for 26 years.

He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, and the John Lewis Shade Post #6 American Legion, Clearfield for 12 years.

Mr. O’Dell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Stella R. (Walushka) O’Dell of Clearfield; a daughter, Jackie Plubell and her husband, Bob of Shawville; two grandchildren, Robert A. Plubell and his wife, Ashley and Nicole Plubell; a great-grandson, Jason Plubell; two sisters and a brother, Barbara Hoover of DuBois and Mary Ann Cutler and William O’Dell, both of Clearfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Snell, Gracie Cole, Dorothy Janie Lytle and Donna Lytle and two brothers, Andrew O’Dell and Harry O’Dell Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee Jr. and the Rev Larry Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Post Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Clearfield Foundation for Health – Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield.

Mary M. Pilosky, 82, of Morrisdale died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. Born Nov. 11, 1930 in Grassflat, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Franek Yatchik.

Mrs. Pilosky was a member of the St. Severin Roman Catholic Church, Drifting. She was a homemaker.

She was married to John J. Pilosky on Aug. 18, 1952 at the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Drifting. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1998.

She’s survived by a daughter, Marilyn Anderson and her husband, Erling of Winburne; two sons, Joseph Pilosky and his wife, Robin of Morrisdale and Jeffrey Pilosky and his companion, Heidi Route of Centre Hall; four grandchildren, Cory Josephson, Jeffrey Pilosky, James Pilosky and Kaden Pilosky; and two sisters, Agnes Gennamore of Buffalo, NY and Alice Bungo of Brisbin.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Yatchik.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Grassflat, with the Father David A. Perry Jr. officiating.   Burial will be in the St. Severin Roman Catholic Cemetery, Drifting.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ronald C. Delp, 81, of DuBois died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Christ the King Manor. Born April 11, 1932 in Coal Glen, he was the son of the John A. and Rachel M. (Lindemuth) Delp.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.

On April 10, 1955, he married Priscilla “Patty” (Winders) Delp.  She survives.

He retired from Shaw Trucking and prior to that, he worked at Brockway Glass Co.

He attended Curllsville Grace Community Church.  He enjoyed hunting and collecting hats.

He is survived by four sons, Gary Delp and his wife, Valerie and David Delp and his wife, Lisa, all of Brockway, Kenneth Delp of Butler and Kevin Delp and his wife, Wendy of Reynoldsville; a sister, Emogene Raybuck and her husband, Foster of Reynoldsville; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Delp, John L. Delp and Jode Delp and three sisters, Margaret Doane, May VanLeer and Ollie Jarrett.

There will be no public visitation.

A private funeral service will be held with Pastor David Nagele officiating.

Burial will be in Temple Cemetery.

Ann B. Carlson, 83, of Clearfield died Friday, April 19 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. Mrs. Carlson was born Jan. 9, 1930 in Laughlintown, the daughter of Russell and Nettie (Stern) Darr.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Carlson was a member of the West Side Unite Methodist Church of Clearfield.

She was involved with the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, Coterie Club and various Pinochle Clubs.

She is survived by four children, Scott Carlson and his wife, Beth of Delmont, Deborah Freeman and her husband, Robert and Karen McKenzie and her husband, Michael, all of Clearfield, and Patricia Keen and her husband, Russell of DuBois.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a sister, Maxine Dortic of New York, two brothers, John Darr of Laughlintown and Richard Darr of Texas and a son-in-law, Ronald Timko of Clearfield.

Mrs. Carlson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward W. Carlson, who died July 1, 1991 and whom she married in 1949, a daughter, Kathy Timko, a grandson, Jeffrey Keen, two sisters, Alice and Ethel and two brothers, Abe and Don.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laughlintown.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., of Clearfield and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the church.

H. Lee Whitehill Jr., 80, of Pensacola, FL and formerly of Clearfield died Friday, April 19, 2013. He was born June 26, 1932 in Clearfield, a son of the late Harvey Sr. and Elizabeth (Turner) Whitehill.

Mr. Whitehill was a truck driver with the Teamsters Union for 30 years. Later, he was employed by the U.S. Navy for seven-and-a-half years. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #2108 of Pensacola, FL.

He is survived by two children, Janet Brocious and her husband, Larry of Clearfield and Harvey Lee Whitehill III of Sanoma, CA; two step-children, L. Suzann Hubler Van-Duzer and her husband, Timothy of Hudson, OH and Bryan K. Hubler and his wife, Tina of Mobile, AL; two grandchildren, Sasha Ryan and her husband, Kevin and Justin Brocious; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Smeal) Whitehill on Feb. 11, 2005 and whom he wed Jan. 1, 1972 in Sparta, NC. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty and Barbara A. Whitehill and Mary Kay Boob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee Jr. as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Bigler Cemetery.

Jack L. Daub Sr., 75, of Clearfield died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1938 in Kerrmoor, a son of the late Clifford C. and Cora (Dimmick) Daub.

Mr. Daub was a truck driver for various businesses. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing and hunting as well as many other activities. Mr. Daub was veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Proud) Daub, whom he wed June 23, 1984 in Clearfield; nine children, Jack Lee Daub Jr., James Charles Daub, Clark William Daub Sr., Elizabeth Newman, Robert Daub Sr., Thomas Daub, Sherry Daub, Christine McCurdy and Robert Sloppy; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Ann Williams, Geraldine Ruth Eckman and Kim Coulter; six brothers, William Charles, Ronald Glenn, James Edward, Ray, Roy and Gerald Daub; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.

There will be no public visitation or services.

Cartha C. (Tubbs) Robbins, 90, of Olanta died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Robbins was born Jan. 6, 1923 in Gazzam, the daughter of Blair and Agnes (Owens) Tubbs.

She was a life member of the Zion Baptist Church of Ansonville. More recently she attended the Community Baptist Church of Bloomington. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she lived every day of her life as a true example of what a Christian should be, opening her days with prayers and devotions, filling her days with praise, love and service to others. She was never quick to anger, was always humble and was loved by everybody.

She also loved her family and spending time teaching and playing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also a great piano player who would often fill the old farmhouse with beautiful hymns complemented by her soft alto voice gently filling in the melody. She spent many days working in her garden and quilting, crocheting and knitting. Even though she would never admit it, she was incredibly skilled in the kitchen.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James V. Robbins, two sons, Dennis A. Robbins and his wife, Faith and E. Lynn Robbins and his wife Roberta, all of Olanta, five grandchildren, Christy Daubs and her husband, Shawn, James Robbins and his wife, Rebecca, David Robbins and his wife, Brandee, Janet Robbins and Bradley Robbins, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Pearl McCracken of Kerrmoor.

Mrs. Robbins was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John, Roy and Blake Tubbs and three sisters, Margaret Predmore, Emma Summers and Ruth McCracken.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., of Clearfield, with the Rev. Richard Engle and Pastor Todd Hogue co-officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Olanta.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert Ray Swatsworth, 78, of Greenville, Grampian RD, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his residence.  Born Feb. 7, 1935 in Rochester Mills, he was the son of Blair and Ethel (Winebark) Swatsworth.

Mr. Swatsworth was a retired contractor/painter and owned and operated RR Swatsworth and Sons General Contracting in Clearfield.  He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Bloomington, Curwensville RD.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited.

On Dec. 21, 1957 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield, he wed the former Rose Mary Rauch, who survives, along with four sons and a daughter, Robert D. Swatsworth and his wife, Denise and Carrie M. Gaines and her husband, Scott, both of Clearfield, Mark A. Swatsworth and his wife, Donna of Indiana, Randall S. Swatsworth and his wife, Trena of Bigler and Daniel I. Swatsworth and his wife, Dawn of Curwensville.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, David Swatsworth, Derek Swatsworth and his fiancée, Celeste Dunlap, Jason Swatsworth, Matthew Swatsworth, Destiney Swatsworth, Randall Swatsworth II, Joelene Murawski, Cassandra Swatsworth, Mallory Swatsworth, Abigal Gaines and Allyson Gaines and a sister, Annabell Peters of Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Swatsworth.

Funeral services for Mr. Swatsworth will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Community Baptist Church, Route 453 South, Curwensville, with the Rev. Todd Hogue officiating. Burial will be in the Hill Crest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.

Eleanor R. Martin, 95, a guest of Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg and formerly of Houtzdale died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born Feb. 26, 1918, she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Rodkey) Bloom. On June 20, 1936, she married John L. Martin, who preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 2009.

Mrs. Martin was a homemaker.

She’s survived by a son-in-law, David Johnson of North Tonawanda, NY; six grandchildren, Richard S. Paulson, Kerry L. Paulson, Lori J. McIntire, Denise K. Johnson, Karen Schmidt and Jody Johnson; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Nick Grossman.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two daughters, Doris M. Paulson and Norma K. Johnson; a great-granddaughter; a son-in-law, Carl Paulson; three sisters, Vera, Tessa and Liddy; and two brothers, Richie and Thomas.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.

Dr. Mariano “Mario” Cipriano, 78, of Clearfield and formerly of Curwensville, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born June 8, 1934, he was the son of Frank and Antonia (Ciotoli) Cipriano.

Mr. Cipriano was an educator and administrator and first taught in the Upper Burrell/New Kensington School District from September of 1955 through June of 1956. He was an educator and administrator in the Curwensville Area School District from September of 1956 through his retirement in July of 1990.

He was a 1952 graduate of Curwensville High School, a 1955 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, attended Clarion and Penn State universities and also took correspondence courses from LaSalle Business College and the U.S. Army Correspondence Schools.  He received his Master’s degree in Media (book and non-book) Supervision and received his Doctorate in Education in 1971, which also included his certificate in administration and certificate to teach communication at the college level.

He served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves from 1956 through 1963, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, a life member of the National and Pennsylvania Education Associations, the Curwensville Area Education Association, a life member of both the National and Pennsylvania Retired Educators Associations and the Curwensville Coffee Club.

Surviving is his wife, the former Carole (Smith) Litz Cipriano; two children, Mario John Cipriano and his wife, Beth and Mary Beth Cipriano-Falk and her husband, Jeff; four grandchildren; a step-daughter, Sandra L. Weber; three step-sons, Kevin Litz, Shawn Litz and Darren Litz; several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife,, Elaine Mellish (mother of Mario John and Mary Beth); his second wife, Wava Eckert Brown Cipriano; and a step-son David Litz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited by members of St Timothy Altar and Rosary Society at 3 p.m. Thursday and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the Fr. James McKee Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Timothy Church or the Curwensville Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Fredrick L. “Derf” Richter, 66, of 80 Riterville Road, Mt. Alton, went to be with his dogs and God and on Monday, April 15, 2013, at his residence. Born May 20, 1946 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Rodney Dorsey Richter and Gertrude M. (Hensal) Richter.

Mr. Richter graduated from Moshannon Valley Area High School in 1964 and from Lock Haven State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and comprehensive social science. He completed his student teaching at Norristown Senior High School in the Philadelphia area. Mr. Richter then earned his Masters of Education Degree in education administration with a certification in secondary school administration from the Pennsylvania State University in 1973.

His teaching career began at Weir High School in Weirton, WV, where he taught sociology and physical education for one year. He then transferred to Glendale Area School District, where he taught senior high economics, problems of democracy and 20th century American history from 1969-1973.

While at Glendale, he was also the assistant coach for varsity football, coached the junior high basketball team and was advisor to the varsity club. From 1973-1974, he served an administrative internship at Everett Area School District as the Junior-Senior High School Assistant Principal while also continuing graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University. In 1974, he was appointed principal of the Johnsonburg Area Junior-Senior High School; at the age of 28, he was the youngest principal in the state of Pennsylvania at that time.

In 1976, he returned home to care for his mother and grandmother and was employed as an education consultant in Pennsylvania for the Jostens’s Corp. of Topeka, KS. Subsequently, Mr. Richter was recruited as a supervisor for adjudicated juveniles in residential treatment facilities in the Pittsburgh area. He then continued in various positions in the education field, eventually retiring in 2000 from the Bradford Area School District. During his 18 years in secondary education at Bradford, he was an itinerate educator of students, supervised the in-school suspension program and the after-school and Saturday detention programs. Occasionally he substituted as the high school assistant principal. Before full-time retirement, he instructed at-risk students for the Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems in Custer City.

An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved bird dogs and hounds as valued companions. In 1991, he was a co-founder of the Black Cherry Chapter #641 of Trout Unlimited in the Bradford area and served as director and officer. He was involved in the 1994 formation of the Youth Group of Trout Unlimited. He served on the McKean County Postal Advisory Board and was a member of the Mt. Jewett Sportsmen’s Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation and several other local sportsmen’s clubs.

Mr. Richter was a volunteer at the Mt. Jewett Memorial Public Library. Additionally, he had been a member of the Pine Acres Country Club for several years, winning the 1990 James Matthew’s Memorial Championship.

He is survived by a daughter, Christine Kutch and a grandson, Taylor Kutch, both of Clearfield; a sister, Gail Richter of Melbourne, FL; a brother, Rodney Richter, and his wife, Cheryl, also of Melbourne FL.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. May 11 at the Kushequa Union Church, with the Rev. Bruce Kumher pastor officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

Barbara J. Young, 69, of Clearfield passed died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born March 16, 1944 in Colver, she was the daughter of William Henry Sr. and Anna Mary (Gallagher) Shepler.

Mrs. Young retired from the Clearfield Hospital with 30-plus years of service and last served in the capacity of medical surgical clerk. She was a member of and served many years as president of AFSME local chapter.  She was Protestant.

On March 11, 1962 in Curry Run, she wed James L. Young Jr., who survives along with two children, Lori Ellen Burke and her husband, David of Chester, VA and James L. Young III and his wife, Carla of New Millport.

Surviving are four grandchildren, Kevin Robert Hepfer and his wife, Brandi, Joshua Aron Hepfer and his fiancée, Stormy Weatherburn, Breanna Rae Hepfer and Cory James Young.

In addition she is survived by eight brothers and sisters, James Shepler and Kathie Hamilton and her husband, Denny, both of Hyde, Bob Shepler and his wife, Gloria of Glen Richey, Agnes Hunt and her husband, Earl “Butch” of Curwensville, Bonnie Turner of Munson, Janet Peters and her husband, Tom of Penfield, Richard Shepler and his wife, Darlene of New Jersey and Dan Shepler and his wife, Debbie of Clearfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin infant, daughters Pamela and Patsy Young, an infant grandson, Ryan Young, sisters, Bertha Hunt and Mary Young and brothers, William and Clair Shepler.

Funeral services for Mrs. Young will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville, with the Rev. Sean P. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Watts Cemetery, Bells Landing.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 12 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Joseph W. Endress, 89, of DuBois died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Christ the King Manor. Born Jan. 17, 1924 in Altoona, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rebecca (Farrell) Endress.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

In 1946, he married Polly K. (Findley) Endress.  She preceded him in death Oct. 13, 2009.

He retired as the owner/operator of Endwood Sales in Reynoldsville.  Prior to that, he worked for Ward Trucking for more than 20 years.

He was a member of the DuBois Lions and the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17.  He enjoyed home remodeling and handyman work, hunting and reading.

He is survived by two sons, J. William Endress and his wife, Diane of DuBois and Thomas J. Endress of Hollywood, FL, a sister, Thelma Endress of Columbia, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Endress.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The Goble-Baronick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Steven L. Hergenrother, 62, of Clearfield died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 16, 1951 in DuBois, the son of Philip and Ila L. (Leach) Hergenrother.

He was a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School and Pennsylvania State University.  He was a computer programmer for the U.S. Department of Defense until 1980.

He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church and was an adult counselor to the youth fellowship.

He was a member of the Mathematic Association of America, American Mathematic Society and Penn State Alumni Association.

He is survived by an aunt, Muriel L. “Myrna” Beard and her husband, George of State College and several cousins and friends; Eleanor Bodle, Mary Helen Hipps and Linda Robison and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip on July 19, 1999 and his mother, Ila on Aug. 13, 1999 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., of Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Centre Cemetery, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. until the hour of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Frances Lorraine ‘Fran’ Mokulehua, 76, of Curwensville died Friday, April 26, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home. She was born March 20, 1937 in Red Bluff, CA, a daughter of the late Arthur Lile and Harriet Lorene Elam (Fries) Turner.

Mrs. Mokulehua was a chef for 38 years who owned and operated many restaurants and a corporate catering business, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Curwensville, where she served on the Board of Directors of Thrivent. She was also a member of the Curwensville American Legion Joshua Earl Sipes Post #505, the General Federation of Women’s Club and served as president of the Women’s WELCA.

She is survived by her husband, Victor K. Mokulehua Jr., whom she wed Jan. 14, 1967 in Oakland, CA; a daughter, LaVeda Hicks and her husband, Norman ‘Wayne’ of Grampian; two grandchildren, Dr. Mitchell Hicks and his wife, Natalia of Evanston, IL and Dr. Megan Elizabeth Hicks of Twinsburg, OH; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Gabriel.

Also surviving are five sisters, Loretta Burgess and her husband, Roger, Alberta Niegle, Karen Crawford and Bobbi Lynn Hooten, all of California and Kathy Turner of Panama; three brothers, Lyle Arthur Turner and Joey Turner, both of California and Theodore Turner of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville with the Rev. Richard Steuernagle officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the funeral home.

Raymond “Spike” Spicher, 85 of DuBois died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his residence. Born April 27, 1928 in Rockton, he was the son of the late Lester N. and Leona Spicher.

On Dec. 31, 1949, he married Claribel (Kuntz) Spicher.  She survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II. He was employed by the Penn Traffic Riverside Division of DuBois, Owens Brockway and the DuBois Area School District.

He was a member of the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as deacon and elder for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald W. Spicher and his wife, Cheryl of DuBois and Dennis R. Spicher and his wife, Louise of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Luke Spicher of Nahunta, GA, Lindsay Campbell of St. Augustine, FL, Lt. Stephen Spicher, USMC of Camp Lejeune, NC, Kathryn Spicher of New York, NY and Andrew, Christian and Nicholas Spicher, all of Atlanta, GA

He is also survived by four sisters, Mildred Dillingham and her husband, Burt of East Earl, Carol Brubaker and her husband, Edwin of Rockton and Marilyn Sayers and Mary Lou Miller and her husband. Bob, both of DuBois, two brothers, Kenneth Spicher and his wife, Virginia of DuBois and Allen Spicher of Big Soldier and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Spicher of Rockton and Anna Spicher of Manassas, VA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam Kirk, two brothers, Donald Spicher and William Robert Spicher, sisters-in-law, Judy Spicher and Shirley Spicher and infant grandson, Jonathan Spicher.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Barry Fillman and Pastor Sally Lydic co-officiating.

Burial will follow in Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

John J. Petrillo, 79 of DuBois died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his residence. Born March 18, 1934 in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Lucy (Malone) Petrillo.

He married Marlene M. (Stottish) Petrillo on June 1, 1974.  She survives.

He retired from the DuBois City Street & Sewer Department after many years of service.

He was a well-known musician and played in several local bands.  He played steel, bass and rhythm guitars.

He was a member of the Falls Creek Eagles and the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He also enjoyed cooking.

He is survived by five children, Vickie Patrick and Richard Petrillo and his wife, Rose, both of DuBois, Jimmy Petrillo of Luthersburg, Debbie Sanchez of Penfield and Johnny Petrillo and his wife, Frannie of Reynoldsville, three sisters, Mary Helen Bylina of Summerville, NJ, Elaine Weber of New Kensington and Alberta Jean Schutz of DuBois, two brothers, Robert Petrillo of Brookville and Jerry Lee Petrillo and his wife, Peggy of New York, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Geneve Norris and two brothers, George and Michael Petrillo.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Sherwood officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

Robert D. “Smitty” Smith, 70, of Olanta died Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born June 21, 1942 in Clearfield, he was the son of Charles “Red” and Lucinda (Harvey) Smith.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed for Superior Pet, D.C. Guelich Explosives and retired from Penfield Gas, the former PPG utilities and the current UGI gas company after 18 years of service.

He also worked part-time for Kips Bus Service.  He was a life member of the Glen Richey Fire Company and a member of the Curwensville Lions Club.

On Sept. 14, 1968 at the Olanta Lutheran Church, he wed Caroline Beckman, who survives along with two children, Sonya Bales and her husband, Cam of Wheatfield, IN and Robert D. Smith Jr. and his wife, Sheila of Grampian.

Also surviving are four granddaughters, Jenna Smith, Amiya Smith, Callie Bales and Jamie Bales, four sisters, Jean Lindy and her husband, James of Reynoldsville, Betty Williams and her husband, Thomas of Reading, Mary Lou Killion and her husband, Earl of Allport and Donna Mann of Osceola Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Smith.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville, with Pastor Richard Steuernagle officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gail Y. Seaburn, 53, of Curwensville died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Seaburn was born Nov. 19, 1959 in Clearfield, the daughter of William C. and Helen E. (Haag) Seaburn. She had worked at Ridgeview in the cafeteria.

Ms. Seaburn was Protestant by faith.

She is survived by her father of Jersey Shore; a son, Eric Scott Gillingham and his wife, Billy Jo of Madera; three sisters, Linda L. McGary and her husband, Gary R. of Curwensville, Tammy L. Blake of Wake Forest, NC and Valarie J. Smith of Jersey Shore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ms. Seaburn was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Joseph Gillingham III.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield with her nephew, the Rev. Roger McGary officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
