Nettie I. Beschler, 82, formerly of Philipsburg, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Mountain Laurel Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

She was born April 11, 1935 in Philipsburg, a daughter of Ralph Swope and Florence (Doran) Swope Aldstadt, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg. She was a 1954 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

She was married April 12, 1988 in Winchester, Va., to John L. Beschler. He preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2015.

She was a homemaker. She spent her life devoted to taking care of the needs of her daughter, Susan Rose Shoffner, by whom she was preceded in death Oct. 4, 2008.

She was also preceded in death by one twin sister, Roseann Mondock and one step-son, Tim Beschler.           

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Mitulski and her husband, Allan of Erie and Cindy Lansberry and her husband, Tom Neiring of Charleston, SC; four sons, Dave Shoffner and his wife, Luann of Madera, Tom Shoffner and his wife, Kim of Erie and Dale Shoffner and his wife, Wendy and Michael Shoffner and his wife, Jennifer, all of Philipsburg; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Aldstadt and his wife, Betty of Tennessee; two step-daughters, Christine Zeppenfeld and her husband, Sterling of Trenton, NJ and Susan Zimmerman and her husband, David of Philipsburg; two step-sons, Steve Beschler of Duncansville and Mark Beschler and his wife, Dana of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.

Friends will be received from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Michal M. “Shelly” Mease, 64, of (North) Philipsburg died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at her residence.

Born Jan. 21, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Paul Gallo Jr., and Elizabeth “Betty” (Richards) Gallo of RD Philipsburg.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, RD Philipsburg. She was a 1970 graduate of the Philipsburg–Osceola Area High School.

She was employed for many years as a front desk receptionist for Harbor Inn and as a school bus driver for Long Motor Buses, both of Philipsburg, until her retirement.

She was married Aug. 19, 1970 in Eden, NC, to her high school sweetheart, T. Scott Mease. He preceded her in death Aug. 11, 2017.

She is survived by a daughter, Monique Mease Adams and her fiancé, Nelson Berrios and one beloved grandson, Zachary Tyler Scott Adams, all of Altoona; one sister, Lisa M. Sievers and her husband, Alfred “Al” C. Sievers Jr., of (North) Philipsburg; two brothers, Wayne B. Gallo of Jersey City, NJ and Paul J. Gallo II and his wife, Marianne of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.

Grace D. Sutterlin, 94, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 in DuBois.

Born Aug. 18, 1923 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Norma Dillinger.

She was married to Walter F. Sutterlin.  He preceded her in death in 1985.

She retired from the North Hills School District after many years of service. She was Lutheran by faith.

She is survived by two children, Nancy J. Newton of Cleveland, Ohio and Scott R. Sutterlin and his fiancée, Suncha of DuBois; two grandchildren, Chris and Mark Newton; and a great-grandchild, Gage Newton. In addition to her children, she was cared for locally by Linda Thomas.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. with Pastor Amy Miller officiating.

Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.

Eugene Yazwinski, 74, of Houtzdale died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at UPMC Altoona.

Born Feb. 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Michael and Katherine (Bizak) Yazwinski. He was employed as a truck driver.

On Nov. 14, 1998 in Niagara Falls, NY, he married Ellen S. Conley, who survives in Houtzdale. Also surviving is a nephew, Michael Yazwinski.

He was the last of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Andrew Yazwinski.

At his request, there will be no visitation or service.

The arrangements are entrusted to the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Lori Hewitt, 49, of Brisbin died Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Born Oct. 22, 1967 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of David and Kay (Lobb) Churner of Brisbin.

She was a 1985 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. She owned and operated Churner Beverage in Houtzdale.

She enjoyed target shooting and spending time with her dogs, Archie, Beanie and Jasmin and her cat, Tweek.

Along with her parents, she is survived by her husband, John Patterson of Brisbin and daughters, Nichole (Dan) Coccia of Fallentimber and Samantha Hewitt and her fiancé, Jeffrey Warner of Beccaria. 

Also surviving are two sisters, Tonia (Rich) Saupp-Burley of Lancaster and Heather (Tom) Domanick of Ramey and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Dimmick; maternal grandparents, Harold and Louis Lobb; and paternal grandparents, Samuel and Mary Churner.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.

Robert D. Bailey,   58, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 at Family Hospice and Palliative Care, Pittsburgh.

He was born April 6, 1959, a son of the late Walter and Coral (Lawyer) Bailey.

He was employed in various capacities at Target Sportswear for many years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed racing stock cars.

He is survived by two brothers, Alvin Bailey and his wife, Teresa of Virginia and Glenn Bailey of Clearfield and a sister, Cindy Thompson and her husband, William of Munson.

As per Mr. Bailey’s wishes, there will be no services observed.

Margaret Rose Stockley, 69, of Philipsburg died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 at the Colonial Courtyard in Clearfield.

Born Oct. 15, 1948 in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Clair Buchannon Creighton and Catherine (Hankinson) Creighton. 

She married Ronald Lee Stockley on Aug. 8, 1970 in Altoona. He survives at home.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg.

She was a retired teacher for the Philipsburg-Osceola Mills Elementary School. She was a 1966 graduate of the Altoona High School; she also graduated from Juniata College in 1969.  She enjoyed quilting and crafts.

Along with her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Shari Ann Stockley-Thompson of Philipsburg and Lisa Stockley-Patalune and her husband, Aaron of Portage; one son, Ronald Christopher Stockley of Mount Gilead, Ohio; one brother, Thomas Creighton II and his wife, Sandra of Manheim; and nine grandchildren, Levi, Sophia and Tucker Stockley, Matthew and Jonathan Thompson and Bailey, Jackson, Casey and Shannon Patalune.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, with Pastor Michelle R. Bodle officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ellen M. Vanatta, 76, of Reynoldsville died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 16, 1941 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Bud and Jennie Synder.

On June 11, 1982, she married Dean F. Vanatta.  He survives.

She was a caregiver and a homemaker.  She attended both the Lighthouse Church and the Sandy Valley Community Church.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Anissa Marie Vanatta of St. Mary’s; a step-sister, Carol Dunlap; a step-brother, Harold Dunlap; and three step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Cathy and step-brother, Joe.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Lighthouse Church, DuBois, with Pastors Dean and Penny Smith officiating.

Larry Greathouse, 61, of Kersey died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Altoona.

Born Sept. 16, 1956 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Hoyt) Greathouse.

On Dec. 29, 2010, he married Beth (Oknefski) Greathouse.  She survives.

He retired from SGL Carbon in St. Mary’s after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5887 and the American Legion Post 208, both in Ridgway. 

He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, hunting and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He is survived by two children, Gretchen Greathouse of Hughesville, Md., and Troy Greathouse of Accokeek, Md.; two step-children, Ur Frederick of Pittsburgh and George Frederick of Ridgway; a brother, Ronald Greathouse and his wife, Joyce of DuBois; and two sisters, Linda Moore and her husband, Richard of Reynoldsville and Janice Pregmon and her husband, Thomas of Treasure Lake.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. A private funeral service will follow.

Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Richard Lee Renoe, 88, of Keewaydin went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Born June 30, 1929 in Kylertown, he was the son of the late Irvin E. and Edith Damey Renoe.

Surviving are his sisters, Betty McGovern of Keewaydin and Marilyn Swartz of Tucson, Ariz.; his brother, Haskell Renoe of Keewaydin; dear friends, Jim and Mandy Wagner of Pine Glen; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he was very close to.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mabel Renoe, Evelyn Viehdofer and Emily Viehdofer; a brother, Earl Renoe; a and long-time companion, Mary Miller.

Mr. Renoe was affiliated with the Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church, Karthaus. He retired from the former R.L. Maney Coal Co., Keewaydin.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Leigey-Renaud V.F.W., Post No. 8386, Frenchville, where he served as an honor guard for many years.

He was a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, Frenchville.

There will be no public visitation.

Graveside military honors will be accorded at the Keewaydin Cemetery, Keewaydin, at a later date.

Born Dec. 25, 1948 in West Decatur, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Maines Fleck.

Surviving are her son, John Lytle and his wife, Anna of Osceola Mills; her grandsons, Daniel Burns and David Kanouff, both of Smithmill; her great-grandson, Wyatt Burns of Smithmill; her sister, Eileen Foster and her husband, William of Woodland; and a brother, Raymond Fleck of Sandy Ridge. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Julia, Irene and Mary and brothers, Howard, James, Neldon, John and Samuel.

M. Cynthia Condon, 92, of Clearfield died Oct. 20, 2017 at Mount Laurel Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Feb. 22, 1925 in Morann, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Chuta) Phillips.

She was Methodist by faith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her three children, Judy Dixon and her husband, Burt of West Decatur, Janet Condon of Brisbin and Debra Kephart and her husband, Keith of Bigler; six grandchildren, Tracey Vorpagel, Brad Dixon, Kristen Smith, Jamie Condon, Aaron Kephart and Chandler Kephart; six great-grandchildren, Haley and Madison Vorpagel, Luke and Lucy Dixon and Aspen and Alayna Smith; and a brother, Patrick Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her son, Blair Condon; great-granddaughter, Alexa Smith; three brothers, Leonard, John and Andy Phillips; and two sisters, Dorothy Tokarcik and Suzanne Stoffan.

At the wishes of the family, all services are private. Burial will be in Bigler Cemetery.

Mary M. Krasinski, 91, of Morrisdale went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center emergency room.

Born Dec. 24, 1925 in Morrisdale, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Johanna Pillar.

On Feb. 10, 1940, she wed Matthew W. Krasinski, who preceded her in death Dec. 28, 1988.

Surviving are her children, William Krasinski, George Krasinski and his wife, Nina, Madeline Clark and her husband, Howard and Robert Krasinski and his wife, Laura Lee, all of Morrisdale, RD, and John Krasinski and his wife, Amy of Julian; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Pilosky and a daughter-in-law, Jane Krasinski. She was the last of her generation.

Mrs. Krasinski was a member of the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Morrisdale. She had owned and operated Mary’s Hoagie Hut in Philipsburg and Chester Hill.

She had worked for the former General Cigar, Philipsburg. She enjoyed farming life, gardening and being with her family during Sunday get-togethers, and she was an avid Bingo player.

Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and again from 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Morrisdale, with Father David A. Perry Jr. as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morrisdale.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be given for masses.

There will be a luncheon after the service at the Morris Township Recreation Center, Morrisdale.

Kathy J. Hallowell, 68, of DuBois died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born Sept. 28, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Gloria (Alexander) Nasuti. 

On July 8, 1967, she married David R. Hallowell. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.

She retired as the assistant manager at Matthew’s Hallmark at the DuBois Mall after many years of service.

She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed her grandchildren and following their many activities.

She was always ready for an adventure. If there was an empty seat, she was in it. 

She was the consummate party planner and holiday organizer. She loved celebrating family and friends and always remembered special days in their lives.

She is survived by two children, Brenda L. Kunselman and her husband, Scott and Bob D. Hallowell and wife, Heather, both of DuBois; two brothers, Ed Nasuti and his wife, Della and Bill Nasuti and his wife, Barb, both of DuBois; a sister, Jacque Boyles and her husband, Ronald of Clearfield; and four grandchildren, Haley and Aliza Hallowell and Courtney and Isaac Kunselman.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Leon Blose officiating. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.

Born Nov. 19, 1946 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Stephanie Lisik Lipka.

She was a 1964 graduate of the West Branch Area High School, Allport. She worked as a nurse’s aide.

Surviving are her sons, William Ryen of Jonestown and Todd Ryen of Winburne; her daughter, Cheri M. Cantolina and her husband, Jeffery L. of Morrisdale; her grandchildren, Kaley Ryen of Fayetteville, NC and Joshua and Meghan Cantolina of Morrisdale; and her brother, Gerald J. Lipka and his wife, Patricia of Quarryville.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Jeffery Lipka.

The family and friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale.

Ruth Miller, 87, a resident of Country View Manor, Quarryville, and formerly of Morrisdale, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at the home.

Born in 1930, she was the daughter of the late Guy J. and Mildred (Beamer) Rougeux of Frenchville. In 1950, she married the late John (Jack) Miller of Drifting.

Surviving are her son, Ron Miller and his wife, Karen of Clarksburg, Md.; her daughter, Jennifer Kirk and her husband, John of New Providence; her grandchildren, Emily, Alaina and Ian Kirk of New Providence; her brother, Donald Rougeux of Louisville, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded by a brother, Willard (Bill) Rougeux of Louisville, Ky.

She had attended Clearfield Schools and her career included employment with the former General Cigar, Philipsburg, and the West Branch School District. She enjoyed her dogs, going for drives and chatting with friends.

Family and friends are welcome for graveside memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Messiah Baptist Cemetery with Father David J. Perry officiating.

Jacqueline Rokoski of DuBois died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. Born Aug. 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Mitravich Stankavich.

She was married to Leonard Rokoski, who preceded her in death Oct. 15, 1967.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Ferguson and her husband, Charles A. Jr.; granddaughters, Sarah Louise and Eleanore; sisters, Rita Mattivi and her husband, Al and Jean Deitsch and her husband, Richard; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Stankavich Jr.

There will be no public visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Jean H. Gallaher, 88, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

She was born June 6, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles Gordon and Thelma ‘Denny’ (Mitcheltree) Herrington.

She was a vibrant woman who lived a very active life. She was an avid golfer, playing at all of the local courses as well as around the world with her husband, David. 

They had held a membership at the famed Pinehurst Country Club in North Carolina for more than 20 years.

She had been Ladies Champion at both Clearfield-Curwensville Country Club and Treasure Lake. She had two holes-in-one in her golfing career.

She also loved many other activities, including Bridge, bowling, gardening and needlework.

She was also actively engaged in the Clearfield community. She enjoyed volunteering with the Candy-Stripe program at the Clearfield Hospital, and she was active in the Hospital Auxiliary, the Charity Ball and many other local organizations. 

She was also a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church in Clearfield.

She was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School in the class of 1947, where she participated in music and sports.

She was drum major in the marching band, played bassoon in the orchestra and played basketball. After high school, she attended Indiana Normal School (now IUP).

She is survived by her husband, David G. Gallaher, and three sons, William G. Bacharach and his wife, Linnette of Clearfield, Andrew G. Bacharach of Aurora, Ohio and Matthew D. Bacharach, M.D., and his wife, Pamela of Lancaster.

She’s also survived by three step-sons, David Gallaher Jr. and his wife, Rhonda of Grampian, Dale Gallaher of Pelham, NH, and Douglas Gallaher and his wife, Teresa of Clearfield; fifteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert J. Bacharach Jr., M.D., and by her brother, Charles ‘Bill’ Gordon Herrington Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home in Clearfield with the Rev. Robert Ludrowsky officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor’s choice.

Dolores Viola Bowery, 80, of Dimeling died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1937 in Viola, Pa., she was the daughter of George B. and Dorothy (Dunlap) Smeal.

She had worked for the former General Cigar and Custom Castings, both in Philipsburg.

She had also done upholstery work for numerous people, and she attended the Community Baptist Church in Bloomington. 

She loved her family and loved working in her flower gardens.

She is survived by six children, Robert Merle Bowery Jr. of Dimeling; Romona Marie Oakman and her husband, Fredric of Meadville; Cindy Dee Lemmo of Bloomington; Billie Mae Bowery of Houtzdale; Sheila Renee Ball and her husband, Charles of Salem, NH; and Robin Lynn Bowery and his wife, Pamela of Clearfield. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, George B. Smeal Jr. of Bainbridge; Joyce Hess and Ronald Smeal, both of Olanta; Martin Smeal and his wife, Patricia of Ohio; Lawton Smeal and his wife, Linda of Middletown; John Smeal and his wife, Pam of Elizabethtown; Evelyn Grubb and her husband, Dennis of Linglestown; Douglas Smeal of Texas; and Louise Rogers and her husband, Leroy of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Smeal; and two sisters, Sylvia Glace and Patricia Smeal.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bowery will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with the Rev. Todd T. Hogue officiating.  Burial will be in the Stoneville Cemetery, Dimeling.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eleanor May Sura, 77, of (North) Philipsburg died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at UPMC Altoona.

She was born May 30, 1940 in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter of Charles A. and Adeline (Cowell) Wolfinger, both of whom preceded her in death.

She started her working career while she was in high school. She was employed as an usher with the Miller Theatre and in shoe sales with Zeisel’s Department Store, both of Elkhart.

She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1958. She later completed a number of college courses.   

She was married July 5, 1959 in Angola, NY to George Sura. He survives at home.

After their marriage in 1959, she lived in Elkhart, Ind., and other neighboring states. She traveled at times with their three daughters to accompany her husband, George, during his employment with ITT Telecommunications.

When he accepted a two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Department of State, Foreign Service, in 1968, she found herself and her family in the midst of Washington, D.C. Up until that time, the furthest she had ever traveled from home was Chicago, a mere two hours away.

She and the three girls would accompany her husband on a number of other assignments, including: Beirut, Lebanon for three-and-a-half years; Washington, D.C. for three years; Bonn, West Germany for five years; Accra, Ghana, West Africa for one year; Kinshasa, Zaire, Central Africa for three-and-a-half years; and Mexico City, Mexico for one year.

During her husband’s tours overseas, she had been employed with the APO and Mail Pouch sections of the American Embassies. While in Washington, D.C., she had been employed with the DEA Agency, Department of Justice.

She was a member of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill.

She was an active member of her church and her activities included the church’s St. Anne’s Guild, serving as council secretary for several years while her husband served as treasurer; assisting with ticket sales for the church’s annual barbecue chicken event; and assisting with various bake and yard sales throughout the years to help raise funds for the church.  

She loved her church and enjoyed the family hour discussions following the Liturgy Services. 

She excelled in a number of crafts, including sewing, cake decorating, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing bingo, cooking and “winning” at the area casinos.

She especially loved getting together with her family, relatives and friends for both the biennial Sura family reunion held locally and the annual Wolfinger reunion held in the Indiana and Michigan areas of the country.

Needless to say, she loved being with her family and traveled extensively to be with them.

She and her husband, George, enjoyed 58 years of marriage across the United States and around the world.

She is also survived by three daughters, Gloria A. Sura Taylor and her husband, Mel of Elkhart, Ind., Catherine L. Sura and her husband, Paul Heesaker of Silverthorne, Colo., and Susan E. (Sura) Sutherland and her husband, Les of Glennallen, Alaska; three grandchildren, George I. and Sarah D. Taylor, both of Elkhart, Ind., and Melvin W. Taylor and his fiancée, Katie (Serge) of Osceola, Ind.; and one great-granddaughter, Adele Taylor-Johnson of Elkhart, Ind.

She is also survived by one sister, Alice (Wolfinger) Ride and her husband, Will of St. Louis, Mich.; four sisters-in-law, Ann (Sura) Richards of Hummelstown, Verna (Sura) Silay and her husband, Stephen of Erie, Mary (Sura) Saupp of Hollidaysburg and Susan (Sura) Johnson and her husband, Jerry of West Seneca, NY; two brothers-in-law, Peter Sura of Hollidaysburg and Marvin Hughes (New Liberty) RD Philipsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Maynard D. Wolfinger; three sisters-in-law, Irene R (Lowe) Wolfinger, Dorothy (Sura) Hughes and Connie (Wiggins) Sura; brothers-in-law, Michael Sura Jr. and his wife, Mari (Chitko), Vasil Sura, John Sura, Andrew Sura and his wife, Dorothy (Schick), Joseph Sura and his wife, Bernice (Whitmore), John Saupp and John Richards; and several nieces and nephews including, Charles Duane Wolfinger.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 420 Laura St., Chester Hill, with Fr. Mark Meholic officiating.  

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, and again from 12 p.m. Tuesday until the time to depart for church. A Panikhida Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.   

Burial will be in Hope Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, Ind., under the direction of Stemm, Lawson & Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 420 Laura St., Philipsburg, PA 16866.
