Obituary Notice: Jeanne L. Wachob

Jeanne L. Wachob, 89, of DuBois died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Dubois Regional Medical Center.  Born Jan. 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Clara (Pierce) Peterson.

She was married to John Carroll.  He preceded her in death in 1961.  She then married Charles Wachob, and he preceded her in death in 2008.

She was a homemaker and, along with her first husband, John, owned Carroll’s Market on the corner of South Main Street and Dixon Avenue in DuBois.

She was a member of Tri County Church.

She is survived by her three children, Diane Grayand her husband, Robert of Reynoldsville; John Carroll and his wife, Myra of Elverson; and Bonnie Dodds of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughter, Donna Hoover and her husband, Gary of Havertown; two brothers, Jack ”Swede” Peterson and Charles Peterson, both of DuBois; and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Fred Peterson; two sisters, Virginia Haines and Elaine Flick; and a step-son, James Wachob.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with Pastor David Bish officiating.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.

Frances L. Schnurr, 65, Woodstock, IL went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the home of her sister in Frenchville.

She was born Nov. 10, 1947 in Lecontes Mills, a daughter of the late Francis ‘Jake’ and Anna (Dixon) Hetrick.

She was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield, and various other nursing homes in Illinois. She also worked in customer service at several trucking companies and was most proud of retiring on 11-11-11 from the Snap-On Repair Center in Crystal Lake, IL. She enjoyed oil painting, teaching Sunday school and evangelism.
She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and cherished spending time with them playing cards and dice. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Edward A. Schnurr, whom she wed June 18, 1994 in Woodstock, IL; four children, Margie Sizemore of Cary, IL, Bill Dixon and his wife, Sonia of Clearfield, Robert Dixon and his wife, Natalie of Alaska and Vincent Dixon and his wife, Stephanie of Shawville; and two step-daughters, Amy Borth and her husband, Brian of Nekoosa, WI and Amanda Lege and her husband, Jacob of Plover, WI.

Also surviving are four sisters, Dot Kelly and her husband, Buck of Frenchville, Lisa Cusanelli and her husband, Dennis of Savannah, GA, Donna Kent and her husband, Daniel of Nashville, GA and Cindy Cole and her husband, Larry of Frenchville; a brother, Chuck Hetrick of Lanse; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Gospel Chapel, Woodland, with Pastor W. Lee Casher officiating.

Walter C. Johnston, 90, of Clearfield and most recently of Bedford, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Bedford Colonial Courtyard.

He was born Dec. 16, 1922 in Clearfield, the son of Walter William and Dorothy Pauline (Cushard) Johnston.

Mr. Johnston graduated in June of 1955 from the Pennsylvania State University, College of Agriculture, with Bachelor’s degree in horticulture. In June of 1959, he graduated with a teacher’s certificate in agriculture education and biological science. And, in March of 1962, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State University, College of Education with a Master’s degree in counseling in education.

Over his lifetime, he had been employed as a baker apprentice at the Johnston’s Bakery; a nurseryman with the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters; an owner/manager landscape horticulturist at Susquehanna Pheasantry, Wallaceton; a poultry farmer; and a vocational agriculture and biology instructor and boy’s guidance counselor with the Clearfield Area High School. Mr. Johnston retired in 1984.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II in the Europe, Africa and Asia Theaters as a seaman gunner.

He  was a member of National Wildlife Federation, Phi Alpha XT Honorary Floriculture Fraternity, Alpha Tau Alpha Honorary Agriculture Education Fraternity, Iota Alpha Delta Honorary Counseling in Education Fraternity, Clearfield American Legion,

Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department, West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield, Clearfield Band, National Education Association, Clearfield Lodge No. 314 F&AM, Clearfield High School Alumni Association Inc., Pennsylvania State

Education Association, Clearfield School Counselors Association, Clearfield County Historical Society, Local No. 624 A.F. of Musicians, Clearfield Bradford Grange and the Clearfield Local P.S.E.A.

He is survived by his wife, Delma Kathleen (Thompson) Johnston of Clearfield, whom he married Oct. 14, 1942; a daughter, Patricia Lee Gorton of Clearfield; a granddaughter, Chandra Dawnell Gorton and her fiancé, Bill Carbaugh of Clearfield; a great-granddaughter, Charlee Ashlan Carbough; and a sister, Patricia Lee Lavchuck of State College; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William E. Johnston and a son-in-law, the Rev. Rodger J. Gorton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the hour of the services Monday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the American Legion Post No. 6 and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.

Obituary Notice: Joseph Dominic Varacallo

Joseph Dominic Varacallo fondly known as “Cappy,” to family and friends, has passed into eternal peace on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Christ the King Manor.

He was born Jan. 4, 1923, the son of Tomasina Molinaro Varacallo Greco and Dominick Varacallo, who preceded him in death.

The world is a better place because of the time he spent devoting his life to community service and family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Varacallo and two sisters, Jennie Kosko and Mary Ferut.

He leaves behind the love of his life, and wife of 59 years, Eva (Rosman) Varacallo, and their three children, Joseph Varacallo and his wife, Mary, Carol Foltz and her husband, Tom and Kay Varacallo.

His family also included seven grandchildren, TJ Foltz and his wife, Danielle, Justin and Kristine Foltz, Alexandra and Haley Varacallo, Douglas Karoleski and his fiancée, Kara and Jeffrey Karoleski and four great-grandchildren, Eva and Gia Foltz and Hayden and Heath Karoleski. He was also survived by one brother, William Varacallo and his wife, Margie and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Sykesville, he was a life-long and last charter member of the Sykesville Lions Club, serving as president as well as chairperson for the Sykesville Pancake Fries and benefit Spaghetti dinners at the town hall for many years.

He was instrumental in the creation of Stahl Park, Sykesville Little League Park, and the Town Hall in Sykesville. He was honored as “Man of the Year” in 1965.  His 42-year career at Rockwell Manufacturing started in Sykesville as superintendent progressing to plant manager of Rockwell Plant No. 2.  Although he was not fond of water, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, traveling all over the world.   His love of family was self-evident in everything he did.  In his free time he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great nieces and nephews playing ball, an occasional trip to Salamanca and being involved in his community.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. A Parastas will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville with the Rev. Fr. Robert K. Yetsko, T.O.R. officiating.

Burial will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Susan Darlene Creek 68, of Woodland died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at her residence.

Born Feb. 5, 1945 in Indiana County, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Velma (Lee) Bartlebaugh.  She was Baptist by faith. She had worked as a caregiver/nurse’s aide for Greensburg Care Center for more than 20 years.

She is survived by six children, Suzi Holes and her husband, Austin of Woodland, Edward Creek of Winburne, Billy Joe Creek and his wife, Amanda of Curwensville, Vikki Evans and her husband, Kenneth and Leo Nelson Creek Jr., both of Zebulon, NC and Angelia Hale and her husband Randy of Dubois; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and three brothers Pete, Norman, and David Bartlebaugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo N. Creek and her parents; two sons, Jamie Lee Creek and David Allen Creek; two brothers, Richard and Joseph Bartlebaugh; two sisters, Shirley Lee and Dolly Keener; and her companion, Wayne Trout.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bradford Cemetery. There will not be any public services or viewing.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ralph W. Maines, 87, of Woodland died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. He was born July 18, 1926 in Bradford Township, a son of the late Earl and Velda (Kephart) Maines.

Mr. Maines was a self-employed logger and also a sawmill worker. He loved to hunt and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, Woodland.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Maines served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie (Krise) Maines, whom he married July 2, 1948, having just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are three children, Mona Welker and her husband, Ernest, Martin Maines and his wife, Kim and Marvin Maines and his wife, Jean, all of Woodland; eight grandchildren, Roland Welker and his wife, Heather, Megan Francis and her husband, Matthew, Hugh Ross and his wife Lisa, Josh Maines, Garrett Maines, Kathy Duval, Heath Maines and Jenna Hudson and her husband, Dale; and two great-granddaughters, Myleigh and Maleah Hudson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lou Maines and two brothers, Mainard and Marshall Maines.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Pastor Sean Patrick Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Obituary Notice: Rodman Otto Eminhizer

Rodman Otto Eminhizer, 85, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1928 in Julian to Pearl Muirhead but raised by his grandparents, Watson and Caroline Eminhizer.

Mr. Eminhizer enjoyed helping people getting started in life, including many local truck drivers.  All of his life he was a serious truck driver at heart. At age 14, he started driving coal truck, which led to owning his own trucks and company. He also managed different truck stops.

He had many employees over the years, and he cared a lot about them. He was a stern man with a very big heart. He loved working in the transportation industry and also spending time with family and friends. He loved traveling to Canada for fishing and spending his winters in Florida with his wife to fish and golf.

Mr. Eminhizer was very dedicated to his wife, family and church. He was very active working for the St. Severins Roman Catholic Church and the many church picnics over the years. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Morrisdale, and the Philipsburg Elks Lodge No. 1173.

He’s survived by Helene Folmar Eminhizer, his loving wife of 67 years. They were married April 23, 1946. Surviving are their five children, Gloria Evans and her husband, Al of Texas and Mary Kay Sperfslage and her husband, Steve, Brent Eminhizer and his wife, Annie, Anita Eminhizer and Scott Eminhizer and his wife, Toni, all of Pennsylvania.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Robert, Lori, Randy, Rod, Jason Scott, Jodi Lynn, Michael, Jennifer, Jonathan, Corey and Chantel; 16 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle, Ashley, Jarod, Lacey, Kody, Kodey, Brodcy, Christopher, Michael, Joshua, Jessica, Cameron, Gage, Neveah and Catrin; and one great-great-grandchild, Kadey.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, two brothers, Eugene and Fred Muirhead and one sister, Janet Kennedy.

Mr. Eminhizer is being laid to rest at the St. Severins Roman Catholic Cemetery, Drifting. Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Grassflat. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Severins Roman Catholic Church, with the Father David A. Perry as celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Severins Roman Catholic Church, Drifting.

Gary R. Ruden, 74, of Philipsburg died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Andrew R. and Verna M. (Mills) Ruden, born Jan. 26, 1939 in West Decatur.  On Sept. 3, 1966 at the First Church of Christ in Philipsburg, he married the love of his life, the former Carol L. Shoff, who survives him at home.

He was a Protestant by faith.

Mr. Ruden served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1956 until his discharge in December of 1959.  His last duty assignment was a nine-month tour of duty in the Mediterranean aboard the U.S.S. Essex.

He was very active in his community for years, serving on the board of directors of the Moshannon Valley YMCA. He was a member of the Philipsburg Rotary Club and Moshannon Valley Industrial Development Authority.  He was an avid reader and loved fishing, hunting and traveling.

He was employed at Warner-Lambert Co., Lititz, Pennsylvania as an accountant and later as a purchasing agent.  In 1972 he returned to Philipsburg and joined the management team at Charles Navasky & Company until his retirement in 2004.

Mr. Ruden was a 1956 graduate of the Philipsburg High School and a 1962 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother-in-law, Ed Navasky; a special aunt and uncle, Arthur and Ruth Rydberg, and his former son-in-law, Dr. Michael A. Capatch.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly R. Ruden of Osceola Mills and his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Marena B. Capatch and Chase A. Capatch, both of Osceola Mills.

Also surviving is a sister, Dona R. Navasky and her children, Charles “Chuck” Navasky and his wife, Jaye; Leslie Gonder and her husband, Greg; and Ruthi Taylor and her husband, Scott, all of Philipsburg; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Carly, Cole, Jakob, Mia, Andrew and Max; and great-great-nephews Ryann and Liam.

He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bob Shoff and his wife, Louise, their daughter, Allison and grandson, Evan, all of Arizona; a brother-in-law, Wesley Shoff and his wife, Bethany of Alabama, their sons, Nate of Alabama and Dr. Hugh Shoff and his wife, Lisa of Kentucky.

At Mr. Ruden’s request, there will be no public visitation.  A memorial service will be held on a future date to be announced.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.

Obituary Notice: Walter Thomas Sitosky

Walter T. Sitosky, 88, of Houtzdale died at Monday, July 22, 2013 at his residence.  He was born at Juneau on March 20, 1925.

He was one of many children to Santurin and Adella (Nowicki) Sitosky. He was a resident of Houtzdale for 49 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy in Belgium

Mr. Sitosky worked as a welder at C&K Coal Company for 15 years before he retired.  He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, Houtzdale.

He was a member of the American Legion, Freeberg Post 0591, Houtzdale, and the Richard L. Beers V.F.W. Post 7043, Blain City.

He also took pride in his garden and was an avid fisherman for many years.

On Feb. 5, 1949, he married Emma Wiley in Johnstown.  She survives of Houtzdale.

He’s survived by seven children, Susan Swisher and her husband, George of Morrisdale; Virginia Bashore and her husband Dale of Omaha, NE; Walter Sitosky and his wife,

Gloria; Emma L. Sitosky; James C. Sitosky and Brian  E. Sitosky, all of Houtzdale; and Matthew C. Sitosky and his wife, Andrea of Clearfield.

He is survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Emily Serian and Irene Lazar, both of Ohio, Edward Murphy of Pennsylvania and Natalie Brooks and her husband, Wayne of New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sadek Sitosky, Matthew Sitosky, Edward Sitosky, Stanley Sitosky, Jack Sitosky, Joseph Sitosky, Natalie Mezerock, Susan Deitric, Adell Bacosky, Jean Murphy and Joan Dordan.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Friday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.

Military honors will be accord by the American Legion Honor Guard at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale,   with Fr. Stanley J. Swacha as celebrant.

Barbara P. Krebs, 79, of Woodland died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at UPMC Altoona.

Mrs. Krebs was born July 13, 1934 in Philipsburg, the daughter of Theodore E. and Levoy (Hubler) Pelton.

She was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Krebs is survived by four children, Rhonda A. Reiter and her husband, Melvin of Clearfield, Mark L. Krebs and his wife, Karen of Morrisdale, Marshall K. Krebs of Woodland and Colette J. Donahue and her husband, Kenneth of Reynoldsville.

Surviving are eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Uncles and her husband, Steven, Danielle Krebs, Jennifer Wink and her husband, Kevin, Kellie Ann Luzier and her husband, Shawn, Mason Krebs and his wife, Rochelle, Marvin W. Krebs, Melanie Jarrett and her husband, Scott and Denise Miller and her husband, Rob; nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Maguire and her husband, Robert of Pottstown and Marjorie Baumgardner and her husband, Larry of Lanse, two brothers, Thomas Pelton and his wife, Linda and Bradley Pelton and his wife, Anette, all of Morrisdale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Krebs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Krebs, whom she married June 8, 1953 and whom died July 14, 2010 and a granddaughter, Kerrie Krebs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with Mr. Doug Maguire officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.

Friends will be received 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Blanche Johnson, 89, of Philipsburg died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg. Born Oct. 9, 1923 in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of the late William and Agnes (Flaig) Smith.

On May 17, 1941 in Winchester, VA, she married Lynn W. Johnson, who died Nov. 21, 1985. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lynn Toth and her husband, John of Bushkill and Frances Thompson and her husband, Richard of Philipsburg.

Also surviving are grandchildren, David Toth and Douglas Toth, both of Sussex, NJ and Timothy Thompson and his wife, Shari and Robert Thompson, both of Philipsburg, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and three brothers, William Smith, Louis Smith and Frank “Beanie” Smith.

She was a 1941 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School of Lock Haven. She retired from the former Clasters of Philipsburg.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. Fourth St., Philipsburg, with Fr. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Friday at the church.

Elizabeth Gearhart, 88 of Clearfield died Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.

She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Woodland, the daughter of John Willis and Emily (Peters) Eberts. She was a housewife and mother.

She was a member of the former Third Ward Auxiliary of Clearfield.

She’s survived by five children, Sharen Gearhart of Wooster, OH, James W. Gearhart of Clearfield, Rebecca Crooks and her husband, Charles of Sheffield and Joel L. Gearhart and Cindy and Elizabeth Butler and her husband, Lee, all of West Decatur; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a brother, John Eberts of Clearfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Owen F. “Pete” Gearhart, who died Nov. 26, 1978; an infant brother; a grandson, Lonnie Maines; and a sister, Nancy Lynch.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Dr. Randy Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Claude William Swanson, 68 of Woodland went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.  On Dec. 17, 1966, he and Ginger were married at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

Born Jan. 10, 1945 in Clearfield, he was the son of the late Frederick and Dolores (Woolever) Swanson.

Mr. Swanson was a member of the Lake Street United Methodist Church, Woodland.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in

Germany.

He was employed by the Moshannon Valley School District until his retirement June 30, 2011.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farm tractors as both a collector and admirer.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and a son, Michele Bell and her husband, Ken of West Decatur; William Swanson of Woodland; and Susan Moore and her husband Dave of Clearfield; four grandchildren, Matthew Bell, Justin Bell, Derek Moore and Kayla Moore; two brothers and two sisters, James Swanson and his wife, Patty of Woodland; Leda Wisor of Bigler; and Ronald Swanson and Sharon Hoffman both of LeMoyne.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frederick Swanson and Leonard

Swanson.

A Celebration of Life for Claude William Swanson will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Street United Methodist Church, Lake Street, Woodland, PA 16881, with Pastor Sean Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church.  Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Military honors will be provided by the Clearfield Honor

Guard following the celebration of life at the church.

Edith M. Lippart, 63, of Curwensville and formerly of Houtzdale died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Ridgeview Elder Care in Curwensville.

She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Gardner) Quick, born Oct. 20, 1949 in Philipsburg.

Ms. Lippart was of the Christian faith.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by: four daughters, Diane Dively of Osceola Mills, Karen Lippart of Houtzdale and Joane Lippart and Ashley Hernandez and her husband, Arturo, both of Lakeland, FL; and a son, Jimmy Lippart of Harrisburg;

Surviving are three sisters, Shirley Schaberl and her husband, John of Troutman, NC, Delores Williams and her husband, Jesse of DuBois and Mary Jane Anchlek of Lithia, FL and a brother, William Quick of Osceola Mills.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kiela Trump, Pattrick Lippart, Lileeana Bloom, Arturo Hernandez and Alonzo Hernandez and a great-grandchild, Kaiden Trump.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, with Pastor Jennifer C. Heikes officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Geynet H. Owens, 85, of Woodland died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at his home. He was born Oct. 26, 1927, a son of the late Merrill and Wava (Dixon) Owens.

Mr. Owens was a dairy farmer all of his life. He was affiliated with the Lake Street United Methodist Church, Woodland. He was a member of the former Main Street United Methodist Church, Woodland.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla J. (Stevens) Owens, whom he wed June 7, 1950 in Woodland; five children, Edwin Owens of Watsontown, Brian Owens and his wife, Karen of Woodland, Shawn Owens and his wife, Debbie of and Holly Carr and her husband, Robert, all of Morrisdale and Michele Dixon of Clearfield; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russell Owens and his wife, Maxine of Woodland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ivan Ray Berringer, son of Michele Dixon; and Kevin Shane Owens, son of Shawn and Debbie Owens and a daughter-in-law Patti (Lingle) Owens, wife of Edwin Owens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Pastor Sean Patrick Smith and the Rev. David Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Fredrick H. Herman Jr., 80, a resident of Philipsburg, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at his residence. Born March 28, 1933, he was a son of the late Fred H. and Rubye (Ammerman) Herman.

On Oct. 15, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, he married Barbara “Babs” (Briggs) Herman, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Lynn B. Herman and his wife, Julianne of State College, Amy B. Beltz and her husband, Jeffrey of Palmerton, Marti B. Eggers and her husband, Kevin of Miamisburg, OH and Guy B. Herman and his wife, Cathryn of Southlake, TX.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Josiah Jones, Ketura Rapchak, Austin Eggers, Evan Eggers, Jack Eggers, Vanessa Eggers, Colton Herman and Clay Herman; one great-grandson, Silas Jones; a sister-in-law, Diane Herman of Johnstown; a nephew, Jeffrey Herman and his wife, Kim of Grass Valley, Calif.; and a cousin, Joyce Anderson of Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert C. Herman.

He was a 1951 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. He was a lineman for Penelec and retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, where he was a former deacon and trustee member.

His memberships included the Philipsburg Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1173, Philipsburg Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #391, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Philipsburg Historical Foundation, Philipsburg AM Vets Post#159, Philipsburg American Legion John Ashley Dennis Jr. Post #437, Philipsburg Area Republican Club and Hope Fire Co. No. 2 of Philipsburg.

He enjoyed golfing, travelling and spending time at his summer camp at Cold Stream.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Sam Strohm officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. An Elks memorial service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

I. Shirley McGary, 86, of Glen Richey died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

She was born Aug. 20, 1926 in Michigan, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Thompson) Rowles.

Mrs. McGary was a homemaker. Earlier in life, she was employed at the former Clearfield Cheese Co. Prior to that she attended Wayne University in Detroit, MI, where she studied nursing.

She was affiliated with the Faith Bible Church, Lumber City. She enjoyed baking and also was an avid reader. Her greatest enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Richard McGary, whom she married April 17, 1948 in Clearfield; a daughter, Kathleen Clark and her husband, Dennis of Glen Richey; three granddaughters, Heather Inguagiato and her husband, Robert, Kristen Peters and her husband, Michael and Cari Bloom; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Kogstrom of Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard K. McGary; a daughter, Barbara Curry; a great-grandson, Logan Bloom; and two infant sisters, Saundra Lee and Nadine.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Pastor Scott Schultz officiating. Burial will follow in the Bloomington Cemetery, Curwensville.

Russell L. Morris, 62, of DuBois died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.

Born Sep. 21, 1950, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Palmer) Morris.

On Oct. 5, 1970, he married Rochelle A. (Page) Morris.  She survives. He had worked at Motion Control in Ridgway for many years.

He was a member of the Brockway Church of God.  He enjoyed sitting on his front porch and spending time with his grandkids.

He’s survived by three children, Billie Jo Morris, Russell L. Morris Jr. and Michael S. Morris and his wife, Melissa, all of DuBois; three siblings, James Thomas of DuBois, Cheryl Smith of Weedville and Mitchell Morris of Lancaster and five grandchildren, Steven, Breanna, Alexia, Paige and Haley.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Krach and a brother, Roderick Morris.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

Donald R. Vaughn, 84, of West Decatur died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield and is now resting in Peace with the Lord.

Born Jan. 6, 1929, he was a son of the late Ellsworth N. and Marjorie Joy (Wood) Vaughn. On Dec. 2, 1948 in Cumberland, MD, he married Henrietta (Smith) Vaughn, who died Feb. 22, 2002.

He’s survived by a brother, Harold E. Vaughn and his wife, Margaret of Philipsburg; a sister, Leah Jane Waring and her husband, Luther of Lewistown; two step-brothers, John Waite and his wife, Shirley and Stanley Waite and his wife, Margaret, all of South Carolina; a step-sister, Helen Miller and her husband, Edward of Altoona; 13 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bernadine “Baney” Waite Vaughn; two step-brothers, Thomas Waite and Todd Waite; three step-sisters, Elsie Shutt, Marcella Smith and Elenora Emery; and a nephew, Randall Vaughn.

He was a long-time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in West Decatur, where he served on the church board and taught adult Sunday school class and Wednesday night Bible study. For the last few years, he attended the Church of the Nazarene, rural Philipsburg, and served on the church board and was an usher. He lived his life working for the Lord.

For a number of years, he worked at Fullington Bus Company as an assistant shop foreman and driver of the charter coaches. He received safe driver awards, as well as the distinction of “Driver of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania.” In 1992 he retired from Penn State, where he worked as a finish cutter in the print shop.

He was a survivor of prostate cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. John Versaw officiating. Burial will follow at Mock’s Hill Cemetery, West Decatur.

Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

M. Lorraine Stewart, 72, of Clearfield died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1940 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Jean (Blair) DeVore.

She prepared income taxes most of her life while also working in many, different vocations over the years. She was employed at the former GC Murphy Co. She worked as a dispatcher for the fire department and police station as well as for the 911 center.

She served as the meter maid. She worked at the Shawville Power Plant. And, she operated Stewarts’ Quick Print and Stewart’s Ceramics. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, cooking, gardening and reading. In addition, she served as a Girl Scouts leader.

She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her greatest love and passion was her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

She is survived by five children, Ralph Hoffman of Texas, Betty Daniels and her husband, Gary of Clearfield, Linda Bowman and her husband, Dean of Berwick, Rose Ann Eckrote and her husband, Frank of Twin Falls, ID, and Melanie Warholic and her husband, Frank of Madera; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also one of six children and her siblings are Melvin, Donald, Sue, Betty and Yvonne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Stewart on Nov. 20, 2004 and whom she wed Aug. 15, 1981 in Clearfield. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Joshua Hoffman and Ryan Eckrote and a great-granddaughter, Bristol Cullimore.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the funeral home.
