Ethel R. Mayhew, 93, of Clearfield died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 14, 1921, she was the daughter of Dorse and Florence (Ogden) Lytle.
She graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1939. During World War II, she worked in Williamsport in the defense industry.
On Dec. 24, 1941, she married Ralph Mayhew, whom preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1985.
She is survived by two sons, Nicholas and his wife, Hilda of Clearfield and Jonathan and his wife, Joyce of Xenia, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Becky Mayhew of Canonsburg; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Keith Lytle of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kelly B. Mayhew and two sisters, Helen (Honey) Werdal and Eleanor Kester.
During the 1960’s – 1970’s, she was active in the Eastern Star and an organist at the Centre Grove United Methodist Church. She also worked full-time at the hospital snack bar. She also enjoyed quilting in retirement.
Honoring Mrs. Mayhew’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mount Joy United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 409, Clearfield, PA or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
