Edward Peter Mathews, 80, of (Centre) Osceola Mills died Tuesday Dec. 10, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
He was the son of the late Peter and Kathryn (Phillips) Mathews born on June 28, 1933 in Philipsburg. He married Janice R. (Boob) Mathews on Jan. 9, 1955 in Osceola Mills. She survives him at home.
Mr. Mathews was a member of the Centre United Methodist Church in Osceola Mill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion Gorman Peters Post No. 313 in Osceola Mills, of which he was a former commander. He retired from James Cowfer Contracting as a loader operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward M. Mathews; a sister, Isabel Rexroth; and a grandson, Justin Myers.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Kim Fyock and her husband, Robert of Smoke Run and Tina Dixon and her husband, Kevin and Tracy Remp and her husband, Ed, both of Osceola Mills; a son, Bruce Mathews and his wife, Pam of Osceola Mills; a sister, Florence Nickey of Philipsburg; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Mike and Melonie Fyock, Brian Mathews, Tyler Dixon, Macy and MaKayla Jury and Hunter, Rebecca and Logan Remp; and six great-grandchildren, Katelyn Gray, Cameron, Dylan, Nathanael and Emma Fyock and Ethan Garcia.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, with Pastor Jennifer C. Heikes officiating. Burial will be at the Centre Cemetery in Osceola Mills.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service Saturday at the funeral home.
