A Celebration of Life Service for Edith E. Musser, 87, of Winburne will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.

Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Mrs. Musser died Wednesday, April 8, 2015. The Johnson Funeral Home, Grassflat, is serving the family.

Robert L. ”Bob” Kester, 90, of Curwensville died Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield. He was born Sept. 7, 1924 in Curwensville, a son of the late J. Ernest and J. Pearl (Middleton) Kester.

Mr. Kester served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a navigator in the South Pacific. After his service with the Army Corps, Mr. Kester attended Penn State DuBois for two years.

He was then employed by Roy Kindig Engineering and also the mapping office of Clearfield County. He also worked in real estate acquisitions with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways in Harrisburg, the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corp. out of Indiana, Pa., and the Benjamin Coal Co. in LaJose.

He then became self-employed as a Pennsylvania-licensed land surveyor. He owned Kester Land Surveys and Land Management, retiring at the age of 80.

Mr. Kester served and was past president of the following three boards: the Curwensville School Board, the Clearfield and Curwensville Vo-Tech and the Central Intermediate Unit.

He was also instrumental in bringing the first nursing home to Curwensville. He had once owned and served as president of the board of the Curwensville Nursing Home.

Mr. Kester was a member and past president of the Curwensville Lions Club and the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors in State College. Being a veteran, Mr. Kester was a life member of the Curwensville American Legion and VFW Post 842.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Thompson) Kester, to whom he was married May 12, 1976 in Winchester, Va.; a son, Brian of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Zena Clark and Grace Mulhollan and three brothers, Clair, William and Charles Kester. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville, with the Rev. Stephen D. Shields officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the DuBois American Legion Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 275 21st St., Clearfield, or to the Curwensville Missionary and Alliance Church, 725 Susquehanna Ave., Curwensville.

John D. “Hoagie” Kennedy, 68, of Philipsburg died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec., 1, 1946, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Kasper) Kennedy. On March 9, 2002, he married the former Susan Dunsmore in Philipsburg. She survives at home.

Mr. Kennedy was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen Association Inc. and the American Legion Post No. 6 and the Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189, both of Clearfield.

He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5020 of Osceola Mills and the AMVETS Post 159 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3450, both of Philipsburg. He was a life member of the BPO Elks No. 1173 of Philipsburg.

He was first employed as a mason with his brother’s masonry company.  Then, he was employed for 25 years in construction and as a fish culturist with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission until his retirement in April of 2007.  He was a 1964 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three daughters, Krista Joyanne Kennedy, Jennifer Ann Kennedy and Erin S. Beish and two brothers, William “Zero” and Karl “Tweet” Kennedy.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian G. Beish and his wife, Brea of Philipsburg and three sisters, Joyanne Kennedy and Marilyn Slother, both of Philipsburg, and Christine Horner and her husband, Stan of Hagerstown, Md.

He is also survived by three grandsons, Nolan “Buddy B” and Lucas “Highpockets” Beish and Everett “Jimmy Cricket” Kennedy Maska, all of Philipsburg; three brothers-in-law, Robert Dunsmore and his wife, Joann of Spring Hill, Fla., James Dunsmore of Lakeland, Fla., and Thomas Dunsmore and his wife, Beth of Philipsburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and one nephew with whom he was especially close, Rick Kennedy and his wife, Erin of Nahant, Mass.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev Robert J. Way officiating.  Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A BPO Elks memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.

Alta N. Zipf, 97, of Clearfield died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

She was born March 21, 1918 in Lawrence Township, a daughter of the late William L. and Mertie J. (McCracken) Nelson.

Mrs. Zipf was a homemaker and a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 379, Clearfield. She was also member of West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield

She is survived her son, Richard A. Zipf and his wife, Ginger of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Jane G. Zipf of Coalport; five grandchildren, Mark Jacobs and his wife, Gena, Paul Zipf and his wife, Bobbi, Linda Shaffer and her husband, Dennis, Adam Zipf and Ben Zipf; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. ‘Jack’ Zipf on Oct. 2, 1985 and to whom she was wed Sept. 17, 1937.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Bill Zipf; a grandson, John C. Zipf; two sisters, Juanita Nelson and Sara Swanson; and a brother, Clyde Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arlayne M. Corman, 85, of Curwensville and formerly of Philipsburg, died Saturday, June 6 2015 at her home, which she shared with her son, Dan, in Curwensville.

Born Feb. 27, 1930 in Detroit Mich., she was the daughter of the late Harper Washington and Florence Margaret (Kreps) Mock and her great-aunt and great-uncle, the late John Irvin and Normena Jenny (McClellan) Shuey by whom she was actually raised.

She married Donald O. Corman on Jan. 14, 1949 in Ocean City, NJ. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1999.

Mrs. Corman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Philipsburg and the Curwensville Alliance Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising house plants and art.

She was a home health attendant for Centre County Home Health until her retirement. She was a 1947 graduate of State College High School. After graduation she attended the Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Ann Jury.

Mrs. Corman is survived by four daughters, Tanya Marie Riopel of Grants Pass, Ore., Rosalie Jean Hockenberry of Hawk Run and Lisa L. Colliver and her husband, Bradley and Teresa L. Corman, both of Clearfield; four sons, John P.E. Corman of Ramey, Bruce D. Corman of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Neil L. Corman and his wife, Gloria of Bigler and Daniel P. Corman of Curwensville.  She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Philipsburg with the Rev. William H. Moore and the Rev. Stephen D. Shields officiating.  Burial will be at the Stoneville Cemetery in West Decatur.

There will be no public visitation.

Randy J. Hanes, 27, of West Decatur died Sunday, June 7, 2015 in West Decatur.

Born May 18, 1988 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Jerry D. Sr. and Gloria Jean Gill Hanes.

Mr. Hanes was a 2006 graduate of the Curwensville Area High School. He worked at the Paris Company.

He was married to Bethany Danielle Ireland Hanes on April 20, 2011. She survives in West Decatur.

He is survived by a daughter, Natalya Hanes and two sons, Keegan and Cameron Hanes, all at home.

He is also survived by four brothers, Jerry D. Hanes Jr. and Scotty A. Hanes, both of Grampian, Gregory A. Hanes of Clearfield and Michael S. Hanes of Curwensville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents, James A. and Vivian Gill.

There will not be any public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, is in charge of the arrangements.

Velma Owens, 80, of Clearfield died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Penn Highlands Clearfield. Mrs. Owens was born Feb. 21, 1935 in LeContes Mills, the daughter of Reynolds J. and Alta (Jury) Lingle.

She had retired from The Progress after 40 years of service. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Gary T. Owens and his wife, Maureen of Gaithersburg, Md.; four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Brian and Kathleen Owens; four sisters, Rose Eaker and her husband, Keith of Austell, Ga., Jeannette Maines of Curwensville, Nellie Lope of Clearfield and Margie Hummel and her husband, Darrel of Frenchville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas Allen Owens. He died Jan. 15, 1969. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen Leigey, Mary Maines and Daisy Owens.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Julia C. “Dolly” Curry, 82, formerly of DuBois, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born May 4, 1933 in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Julia (Noble) Alexander.  She was raised by her grandmother, Bessie Alexander.

On Oct. 27, 1951, she married Darrell Curry. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2011.

Mrs. Curry was a homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in DuBois.  She enjoyed playing Bingo and was an animal lover.

She is survived by her daughter, Darilyn J. “DeDe” Reed and her husband, Blair of Sykesville and her son, Robert D. Curry and his wife, Robin of DuBois; one sister, Miriam Pane of Penfield; five grandchildren, Michael and Scott Rafferty, Jessica and Isabella Curry and Miles Sabatine; and two great-grandchildren, Dakota Songer and Julia Rafferty.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Frank Alexander and a sister, Virginia Alexander.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Jane S. Granlun, 86, of Philipsburg died Monday, June 8, 2015 at her home. Born March 31, 1929 in Wilkinsburg, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Janet (Stewart) Lathers.

She was a 1947 graduate of Philipsburg High School. She had worked for Bell Telephone Company, Howard Nichols Plumbing and the Philipsburg-Osceola School District.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, where she was a member of the Edith Shimmel Missionary Society and the Prayer Circle.

She also filled in as church secretary when needed and was active in the First Church of Christ’s local church camp, Sylvan Hills.

For many years, she was a volunteer at the American Cancer Society, and she enjoyed gardening, crosswords and spending time at their camp at Black Moshannon.

She was a selfless woman who gave to others and helped everyone she could. She loved her family, church and community.

On Oct. 15, 1954 in State College, she married Frederick W. Granlun. He died March 20, 2015.

Surviving are two sons, Brad Granlun and John Granlun and his fiancée, Julie Adomis, both of Philipsburg; a brother, Alex Lathers of Alexandria, Va.; and three grandchildren, Alex Granlun, Birgitta Elizabeth Granlun and Amanda Nicole Granlun.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Pelka.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. June 16 at the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Fowler officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. June 15 at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. June 16 at the church.

Thomas Leigh Barr, 66, of Clearfield died Monday, June 8, 2015 at his home. Mr. Barr was born Aug. 3, 1948 at Clearfield, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Bradford) Barr Bloom.

He was a graduate of Curwensville High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served during the Vietnam era.

He was employed by Beard Oil Co. for 25 years. He had been the owner of Barr’s Heating since 1994.

Mr. Barr was a member of the Centre Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sonya (McCall) Barr, to whom he was married Nov. 8, 1969 in Grampian.

He is survived by a son, Brian Barr and his wife, Alise; three grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan and Renee; two brothers, William and his wife, Mae and Jon and his wife, Sue, all of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Barr; and his step-father, Frank R. Bloom.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with Pastor Rick Butler officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. until the hour of services Friday at the funeral home.

Dwight L. ‘Skip’ Koerber Jr., 70, of Clearfield died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

He was a follower of Christ who sought to serve the Lord and others in all that he did. He lived his life of service through being a husband, a father, a grandfather, a coach, a board member, an attorney and a mentor.

He loved life and people. He lived life to the fullest, as he never missed an opportunity to connect with others and was always up for an adventure. He impacted his family, his church and his community in numerous and various ways that are still being discovered by those closest to him.

Mr. Koerber was born April 1, 1945 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Dwight and Helen (Toth) Koerber. He graduated from Upper St. Clair High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He then entered active duty with the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam before being honorably discharged with a rank of captain. Following his military service, he pursued a career in law and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.

After beginning his career in Washington D.C., he moved with his family to Clearfield in 1980 to practice law, where he was presently in partnership with Eric Cummings.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and a board member of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging. He was currently serving as the solicitor for the Clearly Ahead Development and the Clearfield Foundation.

Mr. Koerber was also a former Clearfield Area School District board member. One of the ways he was best known in the community was through his enthusiastic and tireless work as a “founding father” of Clearfield Soccer over the past three decades.

He was passionate about getting others involved in the sport he loved while also investing countless hours off the field with players, coaches, referees and parents he met through soccer.

His love for the Lord and others was also displayed through his involvement with his local church, Center Grove United Methodist Church.

His faith was particularly shaped by his participation in the Promise Keepers men’s ministry and he volunteered in a number of other leadership and service roles in the church.

His commitment to the growth of the global church was evident through taking a mission trip to Sierra Leone and serving on the board for TeachBeyond, a Christian mission organization focused on education.

Mr. Koerber’s legacy of loving and serving will be always cherished by his family that has been richly blessed by his life. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Gilchrist) Koerber to whom he was married March 4, 1972 and three children, Matthew Koerber and his wife, Chrissie, Megan deMontaigne and her husband, Matthew and Michael Koerber and his wife, Sharon.

He is survived by nine grandchildren, Isaac, Theo, Norah and Stella Koerber, Ella and Catherine deMontaigne and Caleb, Camden and Cooper Koerber and his step-mother, Elsa McCloud Koerber.

Mr. Koerber is also survived by four brothers, Richard Koerber and his wife, Audrey, James Koerber and his wife, Janet, John Koerber and his wife, Nancy and Bob Koerber and his wife, Cindy; three sisters, Lynne Sheppard, May Oles and her husband, Gary and Jennifer Mielke and her husband, Doug; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hyde Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Centre Grove United Methodist Church. Additional visitation will be held from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hyde Wesleyan Church.

David W. Turik, 77, of Drifting died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital, DuBois.

Born Aug. 19, 1937 in Winburne, he is the son of the late William and Viola G. Johnson Turik. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Cooper Township High School.

He was a member of the Messiah Baptist Church, Lanse, for many years. During these years, he proudly cared for the church cemetery. He had most recently attended the Community Alliance Church, Karthaus.

Mr. Turik worked for Butler Trucking for most of his life, starting as a driver and achieving the 1 million mile award. He was nearing the 2 million mile mark when he moved to office duties. Mr. Turik was the evening terminal manager for many years.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed every part of it, especially seeing things grow and sharing produce. His favorite season of the year was hunting season, and he was usually successful.

He was married to Patricia L. Kolivoski Turik on June 13, 1959 at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church, Karthaus. She survives in Winburne.

Mr. Turik is survived by five daughters, Anita Allen and her husband, Larry of Winburne, Nanette Hall and her husband, Roy of Philipsburg, Kristie Turik of White Water, Wis., Carleen Watson and her husband, Tom of Moshannon and Kimberly Cordaro of Dallas, Texas.

He is survived by three sisters, Eunice Deyo of Windsor, NY, Beatrice Fitzgibbon and her husband, Mike of Watsontown and Romelle Mellondorf and her husband Art of Kansas City, Mo., and one brother, Alvin Turik and his wife, Joy of LaJose. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Mr. Turik was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lanse Free Evangelical Church, Lanse, with Pastors Dan Becman and Matt Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Messiah Baptist Cemetery, Lanse.

Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.

Martha O. Beam, 76, of DuBois died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born Feb. 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late James H. Drum and Catherine (Ball) Drum Beers.

On Nov. 20, 1981, she married Donald E. Beam.  He survives.

She was a homemaker. She also had worked at Shop-N-Save and Quaker Market in DuBois.

She was a member of the Sandy Hose Co. No. 1 Fireman’s Club, the Swedish American Club and the Polish Citizen’s Club.

Mrs. Beam is survived by eight children, Joseph B. Spellen Sr. and his spouse, Joseph Tegano of Penfield; Mary “Cathy” Dotts and her husband, Terry of Reynoldsville; James T. Spellen Sr., Sharon L. Wells and her husband, Edward, John E. Spellen, Donald R. Beam and Thomas E. Beam, all of DuBois; and Sarah A. Dillman and her husband, James of Naples, Fla.

She is also survived by one step-sister, Edith Rhines of Richardsville; a brother, George Beers and his wife, Jackie of Reynoldsville; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terry L. Taylor; five brothers, James, Harry, Robert and John Drum and William Beers; a sister, Catherine Henneman; a step-brother, Jim Beers; and a step-sister, Marie Bochart.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Luthersburg Union Cemetery.

Samuel “Tick” Powers journeyed home to the Lord on Monday, June 8, 2015. Born Aug. 7, 1939 in Sandy Township, he was the son of the late Julia Powers Thunberg and Samuel Woodrow Powers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Loretta (Powers) Conrad and Miriam (Powers) Myers; and his nephews, Mark and Samuel “Tim” Conrad, David Frantz.  He was Catholic by faith and often attended mass at St. Joseph’s Church in DuBois.

He is survived by his two children, Phillip S. Powers of Falls Creek and Samantha L. Orlando of Johnstown; his grandchildren, Kaytlen Powers, Stefani Powers, Edward Powers, Kali Martell, Brooke McCloskey and Brianna McCloskey-Stuart; and his great-granddaughter, Neveah Martell.

Lastly, he is survived by his loving sisters, Judy L. Boron of Morrisdale and Emily A. Adair of DuBois and countless nieces and nephews.

Mr. Powers, affectionately known to his friends as “Tick” and family as “Uncle Bucky or Bucky” graduated from DuBois High School and joined the U.S. Army.

He served in the Vietnam War. He was injured in the line-of-duty while serving his country.  He remained a faithful military supporter until his last breath.

After he left the U.S. Army, he returned home to Pennsylvania and married his high school sweetheart and remained married to her for 26 years.

He was a loving and indulgent husband and had nothing but pride for his two children.  He worked for several years as a specialized laborer at Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Mary’s until his war and work injuries rendered him unable to work.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, both for recreation and sport. He was a highly respected gardener of everything from fruits and vegetables to his showcase flower beds.

He also enjoyed cooking for anyone who walked through his door.  In the summertime, he took great pride in cheering on the DuBois Little League and All-stars teams.

Those who knew Mr. Powers loved him and were always entertained by his ability to share his vast knowledge of current events, world news, trivia and his undeniable talent for being able to enthrall the masses with his stories.

He loved to laugh and to make people laugh until they were crying.  He made friends wherever he went.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but most of all, by his children whom he loved unconditionally.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 22 at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in DuBois with Fr. Daniel Kresinkis as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Shirley I. McMasters, 86, of Clearfield died Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Penn Highlands Clearfield. She was born Oct. 1, 1928 in Burnside, a daughter of the late Norman and Zada (Long) Hollen.

Mrs. McMasters was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, playing computer games and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diana McMasters of Clearfield and Jeanette Sunderland and her husband, Pat of Rockton.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Renee, Yvonne, David and Michelle; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Patricia Walls and Georganna Reigs, both of Altoona, Charlotte Brink of Glen Campbell, Kitty McGarvey of Burnside and Doris Jean of Florida; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly McMasters of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. McMasters, on Dec. 14, 2000 and to whom she was wed April 5, 1946 in Clearfield.

She was also preceded in death by a son, David McMasters on April 5, 2014; three sisters, Marjorie Hollen, Mary Edna Baldwin and Lorna Bell Miller; and a brother, William Hollen.

All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Fairview Baptist Cemetery, LaJose.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to charity of one’s choice.

Charles “Martin” Haag Sr., 77, of Grampian died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born June 7, 1938 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Seymour J. Haag and Susie C. (Swartzlander) Haag.

On June 8, 1957, he married Rosena (Schaffer) Haag.  She preceded him in death on March 20, 2014.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Ruskin Dressler Coal Company.  Prior to that, he worked for the Benjamin Coal Company for many years.

He was a member of the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by five children, Mona Crosby and her husband, Ed of Brockway; Chuck Haag and his wife, Michele and Lori Seger and her husband, Scott, both of Grampian; Gary Haag and his wife, Carla of Luthersburg; and Penny Titler of Brockport.

He is also survived by two sisters, Lorena Jones of Copper Cove, Texas and Cathy Dilts of Grampian; five brothers, John Haag and his wife, Joann of Sharon, Joseph Haag and his wife, Linda of Troutville, James Haag and Albert Haag, both of Grampian and Andrew Haag and his wife, Karen of Luthersburg; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Mastrian as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Smeal, 86, of Big Run died Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Born June 18, 1928 in Woodland, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Hazel Poorman Luzier.

Mrs. Smeal was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bigler.

She loved to cook and insisted anyone who visited left full. She was a great role model and unwavering example of how to love and help every person with whom you cross paths.

Mrs. Smeal loved everyone and everyone loved her.

She married Willis A. Smeal on July 7, 1947 in Bigler. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Helen J. Luzier and her husband, Jim of LeContes Mills and Joyce A. Campbell and her husband, Rodger of Punxsutawney and three sons, Edward A. Smeal and his wife, Lucy of Bloomfield, Leslie D. Smeal and his wife, Robin of Morrisdale and Gregory L. Smeal and his wife, Rene of Clearfield.

She is also survived by a sister, Donna McCracken of Clearfield; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smeal was preceded in death by two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Al Butler; one sister; and five brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with Pastor Dennis McCracken officiating. Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joseph J. Millan, 84, of DuBois died Friday, June 12, 2015 at Christ the King Manor.

Born March 9, 1931 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Mary Kardell.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

On April 23, 1994, he married Donna Kness Millan.  She survives.

Mr. Millan retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller after more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in DuBois, the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited and the Potter County Anglers Club.

He is survived by a son, John Kness and his wife, Valerie and their children, Anthony and Ethan; three daughters, Terry Millan and her children, Scott, Carrie and Nikki, Carla Coulson and her husband, Dave and their children, Julie and Steven and Christina Hannon and her daughter, Nia; two sisters, Madelin Shedletsky and Theresa Backus; and 11 great-grandchildren.

There will be no public visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Fr. James Kennelley as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be placed St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 25 Robinson St., and or Christ the King Manor, 1100 W. Long Ave., both in DuBois, PA 15801.

Betty L. Hugg, 90, of Philipsburg and formerly of Sandy Ridge, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg.

Born Nov. 8, 1924 in Sandy Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Kennedy) Sharpless.

She married the late Leland E. Hugg in North Carolina; he preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1977.

Mrs. Hugg was a member of the United Methodist faith. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Peggy Joan Hugg; a grandson, Michael Lee Tomco; two sisters, Dolores Podliski and Mary Lou Goss; and two brothers, Robert and Fred Sharpless.

Mrs. Hugg is survived by a daughter, Darlene Tomco and her husband, Michael of West Decatur; two grandchildren, Michelle Lezzer of West Decatur and Mark D. Tomco and his wife, Emilee of York; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Osceola Mills, with Pastor Tina M. Hawkins officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Charles R. ‘Chuck’ Welker, 68, of Julian, formerly of Clearfield, died on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

He was born on March 25, 1947 in Clearfield, a son of the late Luther M. and Blanche A. (Coudriet) Welker.

He was employed for many years and retired from Piper Aircraft in Quehanna. He then worked for Montgomery Ward in DuBois.

He was a member of Martha’s United Methodist Church, Julian.  He was a proud US Navy veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War.  A life long learner, Chuck enjoyed traveling and seeing new places.  During his travels, he had a great fondness of shopping for antiques and visiting yard sales.  He also greatly enjoyed fishing, whenever possible.  He loved his beagles, shelties and most of all his family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Gasparovic) Welker whom he wed May 28, 1994; a son, Deane Welker and wife Naomi of Clearfield; a brother, Terry Welker and wife Susan of Clearfield; a sister, Kathy Leigh and husband Bruce of TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Ann Kelly.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Daniel M. Osterhout officiating.  Interment will follow in the Williams Cemetery, Julian.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9-11 AM.
