Rob Derrick, age 64, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 with his wife at his side. Rob courageously battled Parkinson’s disease for the past 25 years, not giving in to its limitations until more recent times. Born and raised in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late Robert L., Sr., and Odessa M. (Walley) Derrick.

Rob graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1968. He then attended Williamsport Vocational School where he learned his trade. He was an aircraft mechanic at Piper Aircraft in Quehanna, PA, Lockheed in Marietta, GA, Eastern Airlines in Atlanta, GA, and retired from Boeing Helicopter in Ridley Park, PA.

In healthier years, Rob enjoyed spending time canoeing, hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of White Clay Fly Fishers, where he developed his love of fly fishing and tying his own flies.

Rob deeply loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Hazel Derrick; his former wife and mother of his children, Gloria Robinson Esquilin; daughter, Jacqueline Neidinger and husband, Erik, of Frederick, MD; sons, Aaron Derrick and wife, Denise, of Clearfield, PA, and Todd Derrick of Clearfield, PA. He was proud “Pap” to seven grandchildren; Jessica Maines, Kaylie English and her husband, Matt, Joshua Derrick, Noah Neidinger, Dessa Neidinger, Matthew Derrick, Casey Derrick; and a great grandson, Trenton English.

Rob is also survived by his sister, Susan Bielawski and companion Wilson Ruth; nephew, Anthony Bielawski and wife Jill; and nieces Melissa Clemmer and husband Andy, and Pamela Bielawski.

Rob leaves behind many loving sister and brother-in-laws, two aunts and an uncle, nephews, nieces, and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by his faithful Cocker spaniel, Toby, who was always at his side to comfort him.

The family would like to extend deep gratitude to Dorothy Hazel, Rob’s mother-in-law, who graciously assisted in his care over the past few years, enabling him to remain in the comfort of his own home. His family also appreciates the great kindness and attention that the Staff of Compassionate Care Hospice provided.

Rob will be cremated and returned to Clearfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Michael J. euegene smithEugene H. Smith, 74, of Frenchville passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College after his heroic battle with cancer.

Eugene was born on August 9, 1940 in Colver, PA. the son of Eugene and Virginia(Aughenbaugh) Smith and was raised by his adoptive parents, James and Frances Rougeux.

He was a member of Riverview Bible Church of Clearfield.

He was employed for many years as an insurance agent with Baltimore Life. He had a passion for his family, camping, fishing and woodworking.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte R. (Wisor) Smith whom he married May 28, 1960; four children, Randy Eugene Smith and his husband Lawrence Votta of Miami Beach, FL, Robin L. Shaw of Indiana, PA, Rhonda R. Uttam and her husband Mike of Powell, OH, and Michael R. Smith of Frenchville, four grandchildren;  Callie, Lauren, Sidney and Noah, and seven siblings; Violet Shugarts, Sandra Kuhn, Helen Ferguson, Robert Smith, William Smith, Donald Smith and David Smith and his birth mother Virginia Smith of Indiana, PA.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, his birth father, twin grandsons; Lucas Hiland and Zachary Daniel Shaw and a sister, Barbara Shirey.

Funeral services will be held at Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Eveleth officiating. Interment will be at Eden Cemetery, Shawville.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

Charles McClure 4 (1)Charles John McClure, 69, of Curwensville passed away Tuesday June 16, 2015 at Ridgeview Elder Care in Curwensville after a lengthy illness.

Born January 1, 1946 in the Clearfield Hospital, he was the son of Robert V. and Mary Ann (Balaban) McClure.  Mr. McClure was a Diesel and Service Mechanic having first worked for Clearfield Truck Rentals, then Brown Brothers Trucking, next Guy Graham Trucking, and finally for Butler Trucking of Woodland where he retired after 25 years of service.

He was a member of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, a life member of Knepp’s Camp, a Life Member of the Rescue Hose and Ladder Company of Curwensville, a member of Noble Lodge #480 F. & A. M. Curwensville, and a member of and past president of the Curwensville Sportsman Association.

Surviving are two children Nancy McClure Pinto and husband James of Clearfield and Robert A. “Middy” McClure and wife Darlene of Curwensville, 3 grandchildren Shelby and Steven McClure of Curwensville and Nichole Fye of Miami, FL and 2 brothers Robert E. McClure of Curwensville and Michael McClure and wife Donna of Kellytown.

Also surviving is his companion Gail McClure of Curwensville, her children Ronald McClure of Indiana, Tom and wife Becky McClure and Dave and wife Joanna McClure both of Curwensville and her 4 grandchildren Erika Leigey, Bryce and Zachary McClure. and Nathaniel McClure all of Curwensville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Gail McClure’s daughter Susan McClure.

A Memorial Service for Charles J. McClure will be held at the Curwensville Presbyterian Church 430 Locust Street Curwensville on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with Mr. Gary Jewart and Rev. Charles Tabor co-officiating.  Interment will be in the McClure Cemetery Curwensville.

Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Tuesday June 23 from 3 to 8 PM, and again at the Church on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by members of Noble Lodge #480 Free & Accepted Masons of Curwensville, PA on Tuesday June 23, 2015 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Faye M. Johnson, Age 75 of Short St., Falls Creek, PA died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home.

Born on June 2, 1940 in Reynoldsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Adam & Bessie (Swartz) Snyder.

On February 24, 1962, she married Gust “Kage” Johnson.  He preceded her in death on May 20, 2005.

Faye was a home maker and a private house cleaner.

She was a member of the Shepherds Grace Chapel in Falls Creek, the Old Towne Beagle Club and was an auxiliary member of the Falls Creek Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She is survived by her son (Terry Johnson and his wife Cathy of DuBois, PA), her niece (Wanda Mikulec  of Falls Creek, PA), a sister (Shirley Lloyd of Warren, OH) and a brother in law (Alvin Johnson of Falls Creek, PA) as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter (LuAnn Johnson) and a brother (James Snyder)

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home with   Pastor Greg Sands officiating

Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery, Falls Creek, PA.

C. Colleen Fundanish, 84, of New Millport, passed away Friday June 19, 2015 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Born February 10, 1931 in Carnwath, she was the daughter of Nathan and Esther (Newpher) Witherow.  Mrs. Fundanish was a homemaker.

In April of 1948 she wed Edward Michael Fundanish who preceded her in death in 1976.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Debbie Fundanish, and a brother Nathan Witherow Jr.

Surviving are 3 children Judith Ann Schmuck and husband Robert of Corinth, TX, Peggy Vaughn Wiker and husband Robert of Charlotte, NC, and John E. “Jack” Fundanish and husband Jeffrey Kiser of Pittsburgh, 3 grandsons Ben, Bobby and Tom, 2 step granddaughters Susan and Jennifer, a great granddaughter Vivian, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.  Cameron Witherow of Houtzdale, Duane Witherow and wife Bonnie of Olanta, Patricia Weber and husband John of Reynoldsville, Shirley Jean Shaffer and husband Marvin of Falls Creek, and Thomas Witherow and wife Linda of Pittsburgh.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Fundanish will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Monday June 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Charles M. Lee Jr. officiating.  Interment will be in the Fruit Hill Cemetery, New Millport, PA.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday June 21, 2015 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM, and again on Monday from 10 AM until time of services

Frances M.Mitchell, Age 87 of West Washington Ave., DuBois, PA died Friday, June 19, 2015 at Christ the King Manor.

Born on February 12, 1928 in Salem Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Michael C. & Dorothy (Miller) Chestnut.

On November 24, 1949, she married Ronald Mitchell.  He preceded her in death on May 20, 2007.

Fran worked for many years in the kitchen at Christ the King Mano.  She, along with her husband, was the owner of Mitchell’s Gulf Service on Brady Street in DuBois for over 25 years.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was very active the St. Catherine Church affairs.  Fran was the valedictorian of Sykesville High School Class of 1945.  She served on the DuBois First Ward Election Board for many years, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and was a member of the Friendship Hose Co. # 2 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children (Margaret “Peggy” Blaszczyk & her husband Jerry of Erie, PA; Gary Mitchell & his wife Jacqueline of DuBois, PA; Dorothy Morris & her husband Robert of Williston, VT; and Douglas Mitchell & his wife Annette of Erie, PA) a brother (James Chestnut of Austin, TX) 6 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother (Charles Chestnut)

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

The rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. to be immediately followed by a scriptural wake service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

Burial follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.

Virginia Davis Baggett was born in Clearfield, PA August 22, 1934. She was the daughter of William T. and Jane (Carmack) Davis and a member of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church. She Attended Clearfield public schools, graduated from The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA, class of 1952, and from Mt. Holyoke College, MA, class of 1956 with a B.A. Degree in botany.

Upon graduation she worked for the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Yonkers, NY and then worked for 7 years in the Standards Control Dept. of Burroughs-Wellcome (now Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals) until her marriage to Bruce Baggett in 1963.

While living in Westchester County, NY, she took an active interest in Girl Scouting, both as a leader and Service Team Chairman. Also during this time she began to pursue art as a career and took courses toward a master’s degree in art history at Hunter College in NYC where she studied with the minimalist painter Ad Reinhardt. Silkscreen printmaking became a principal interest and she studied this medium under the tutelage of New Hampshire printmaker Nancy Nemec.

“Ginny,” as she became known professionally, launched her art career in New York with a number of solo exhibitions, one of which was the Panoras Gallery on Madison Avenue in NYC. She was given a contract with the Donald Art Company and many of her works were reproduced for magazines such as Woman’s Day and various decorating publications.

After her return to Clearfield with her husband and two children Paige and Tim, she became a charter member of the Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art in State College and served on the board of that organization for 6 years. She became a juried artist at the Central PA Festival of Art for 20 years winning both a Merit award and Invited Artist Status prior to retiring from exhibiting there. She was a member of the Susquehanna River Art Center in Clearfield for more than 25 years and served as Exhibition Chairman for that organization as well as fulfilling many other capacities. Her work has been shown in many local galleries such as the Artisan Connection in State College, the Gallery Shop in Lemont, Art 4 in Hollidaysburg, and the Winkler Gallery of Fine Art in DuBois where she was a juried member of the artists' co-op.

Ginny has also been a member of the Pittsburgh Print Group, the Miriam Perlman Gallery in Chicago, and the North Village Gallery in Warren, PA. Exhibitions of her work include several at Penn State such as the Kern Graduate Center, Hetzel Union Building Gallery and the Mary Smeal Gallery in Dubois. She has had exhibits at the Borelli-Edwards Gallery in Pittsburgh, the Hershey Medical Center Rotunda, the Gamble Mill Gallery in Bellefonte, the Prendergast Free Library in Jamestown, NY, the Schlow Memorial Library in State College, and Paterno Library at Penn State. Her work is in many public and private collections such as the Hillman Foundation, Blue Cross of Western PA, Golba Associates of Design in Pittsburgh, Warren Public Library and Lebanon Valley College.

In addition to her work as a silkscreen printmaker, Ginny and her husband had operated the historic bed and breakfast Christopher Kratzer House in Clearfield from 1991 until they moved to Clearwater, FL in November 2011.

She is a member of the DAR and has served in the office of historian for the Dubois/Susquehanna Chapter since its 2003 merger.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce, their daughter Paige Riggins of Orlando, FL, son Timothy Baggett of South Pasadena, CA, and two grandchildren, Austin and Baylee Riggins of Alexandria, VA and a step-granddaughter, Izzy Alvarez.

Mrs. Baggett passed away March 10, 2015 in Clearwater, FL.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2PM at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church, 119 N. 2Nd Street, Clearfield, PA 16830 with Rev. J. Robert Mellgard officiating.  There will be a time of receiving of friends at a light luncheon following the service. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Judith Louise Beers, 74, of Westover, and formerly of Curwensville, passed away Saturday June 20, 2015 at the home of her daughter Amy Bailey after a lengthy illness.

Born March 4, 1941 in Grampian, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Linda (Bickford) Ross.  Ms. Beers was a homemaker and had worked for the former Clearfield Cheese, the former Shortway Products, and the former Ames Department Store.  She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and watching her garden grow.

She is survived by 4 children: Karen Vafias and husband Steven of Carlisle, Kelly Ryan of Perkasie, Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Beers and wife Cheri of Utahville, and Amy Bailey and husband Christopher of Westover.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and a brother Charles “Danny” Ross and wife Donna of Curwensville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother-in-law Diane and Otis Kelly, and an infant sister.

Funeral Services for Ms. Beers will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc.  of Curwensville on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend Stephen Shields officiating.  Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from Noon until time of services at 1 PM.

Because Judith loved her garden and gardening, she requests that no cut flowers be sent to the funeral home and that if someone wishes to do something, that they plant  either a living tree, plant, or flower somewhere in memory of her.

Danielle Marie Martin, age 36, of Morrisdale, died June 19, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was born November 23, 1978, in Philipsburg. Ms. Martin was a homemaker.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, riding on her four-wheeler, kayaking, and always cleaning.

Ms. Martin is survived by her mother and step-father, Alice L. Martin King and Randy King, of Grassflat; fiance‚ Robert G. Heylon, of Osceola Mills; one daughter, Mariah Irene Sutton, of Morrisdale; three sisters, Crystal Shaw of FL, Ashley Packer of Williamsport, and Mekaila King of Grassflat; one brother, Hunter King of Grassflat; maternal grandparents, Carl and Margaret Martin of Morrisdale; and step-grandmother, Ann Delaney of Jersey Shore.

A funeral service for Ms. Martin will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Grassflat with Pastor Tina Hawkins officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 5-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services, at the funeral home.

Pauline L. Giza-Murawski, 94, of Morann, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Penn Highlands Clearfield Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 25, 1921 in Chesterfield, PA to John and Suzanna (Palcisko) Kozak.

She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church inHoutzdale, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America- St. Victoria Court #646.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by herfirst husband, Peter Giza, second husband, Steve Murawski, daughter, LindaSiano, infant son Jerry, grandson, Robert “Rob” Siano,  three sisters, Judy Bungo, Mary Ann Bucher,and Margaret Kozak, four brothers, George, Andy, Steve, and Thomas Kozak. She will be deeply missed by her two daughers, Carol Menardof Clearfield, and Peggy Slifko of Morann, one brother, Leonard Kozak of Parma,OH, five grandchildren, Jerry(Sherry) Switala, Christ Switala, Cinday Slifko-Moore, Terry (Jessica) Slifko, Tim Slifko, five great-grandchildren,Elyse, Emily, Tessa, Elizabeth, and Joshua, one great-great granddaughter,Maive, and a son-in-law, Peter Siano.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and Thursday from 9-10:15 a.m. in Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey.  Catholic Daughters of America will recite the rosary Wednesday at 3:30 p.m..

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 in Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Rev. Marc J. Solomon as celebrant.

Charlotte A. Turner, age 88, of Bigler, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at Tyrone Hospital.

She was born May 17, 1927 in Bradford Township; daughter of the late Thelma (Owens) Butler.

Mrs. Turner was a homemaker and a skilled breakfast cook at many restaurants.

She was a Methodist by faith, a member of the Lady’s Coffee League Bowling, and enjoyed weaving rag rugs.

Survivors include three sons: Daniel, and wife, Connie of Bigler, Tim and wife,

Debra of Woodland, and Michael and wife, Kathy of Clearfield; one daughter: Dawn Marie Gearhart, and husband Jim of Woodland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Herschel Butler and Hayden Butler; and one sister: Ruth Ann Bordas.

She was preceded in death by her mother; husband, Doyle Turner, who passed away in 1980; and grandson, Michael Turner.

Funeral services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John White officiating.

Friends and family are invited to the funeral home Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Leslie J. Lipnicky, 64, of Basom, NY and the Osceola Mills area died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home.

Born on March 11, 1951 in New York, NY, he was the son of the Late Thomas and Vera M. (Kephart) Lipnicky.  He married Cheryl L. (Liedke) Lipnicky on May 1, 1981 in West Seneca, NY; she survives at home.

He was of the Christian Faith.

Mr. Lipnicky was a retired paper mill foreman with the United States Gypsum Co. in Oakfield, NY and was a graduate of the Pembroke High School in Pembroke, NY.  He was an active member in the NRA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joshua T. Lipnicky of Basom, NY and Andrew W. Lipnicky of Caledonia, NY.

The Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, PA; with Rev. E. Joseph Rohrbacker officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Margaret R. Parks, 94 of Philipsburg, PA and formerly of Ashland died on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Windy Hill Village, P.S.L. in Philipsburg, PA.

Born on March 1, 1921 in Brisbin, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl & Pauline (Warwick) Truax.  She married Herman A. Parks on December 24, 1941 in Brisbin, PA; he preceded her in death on October 31, 1998.

Mrs. Parks was a member of the Ashland Wesleyan Church in RD Osceola Mills, PA.  She was a homemaker and a graduate of the former Houtzdale High School.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Smith, Freda Pinto and Irene Archer.

Mrs. Parks is survived by: two daughters, Verda Soltesz & her husband David of State College, PA and Cathy Verbeck & her husband Willard of Hawk Run, PA; a son, Norman A. Parks & his wife Janice of Morrisdale, PA; five grandchildren, Shannon Soltesz, Eren Roan, Wendy Timblin, Holly Bryan  and Norman Parks, Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, PA, with Rev. E. Joseph Rohrbacker and Rev. Arlene A. Rohrbacker officiating.  Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brisbin, PA.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Lucille N. Pannebaker, 87, of Bigler passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the home of her son, Clare.

Mrs. Pannebaker was born January 8, 1928 in Bradford Twp., the daughter of Alfred Roland and Edith May (Jury) Graham.

She was a homemaker, raising seven children and was employed at the former Captian’s Table for several years.

Mrs. Pannebaker was a member of the New Life Center of Philipsburg where she served with the Missionettes and choir.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Pannebaker is survived by ten children; Bernice Barlup of Marysville, Gilbert Pannebaker, Jr. and his wife Lois of Guys Mills, Dorothy Ivie of Duncannon, Earnest Pannebaker and his wife Kay Ellen of Milan, IL, Garry Pannebaker of Beccaria, Bonnie Burleigh and her husband George Baker of Clearfield, Sandy Anderson and her husband Thomas of Woodland, Clare Pannebaker and his wife Bobbie of Bigler, Amymarie Couturiaux and her husband Michael of Plant City, FL and Jay Pannebaker and his wife Esther of Bossier City, LA, thirty-seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her generation having been preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gilbert, her grandson, Michael English, her great-grandson, Caleb Hand and ten siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the New Life Center, Philipsburg with Pastor John Dill officiating. Interment will be in Bigler Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of services.

Sophie J Colton, 91 a resident of Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehab Center, Clearfield and formerly of Beulah died Monday June 22, 2015 at the center.

Born April 24, 1924 in Smokerun, she was the daughter of John and Eva (Corrnish) Katishen.

Sophia was a homemaker and a member of St Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey.

She married Walter Colton who preceded her in death on December 28, 1993.

Sophie is survived by a daughter Shirley Harnish and her husband Charles of Houtzdale, two sons, Dennis Colton of Houtzdale and William Colton and his wife Betty of Philipsburg, six grandchildren, Bryan Harnish and his wife Lori of Houtzdale, James Harnish and his wife Brenda of South River, NJ, Charles Harnish of Michigan, Krista Thumma and her husband Joe of Carlisle, Heather Herring and her husband Tom of Philipsburg, Michael Colton and his wife Sherry of Bloomington, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Also surviving is a brother John Katishen of Beccaria, and four sisters, Christine Smeal of Ramey, Helen Bungo and her husband George of Ramey, Rose Bungo of Ramey and Mary Ann Nevling of Ramey.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Robert, a daughter-in-law Karen Colton and an infant sister.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday June 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at St Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey with Father William Rupp officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends will be received Thursday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home Inc. Houtzdale.

Curwensville: Luella J. Pearce, 93, of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday morning June 24, 2015 surrounded by her family.

Born July 4, 1921 in Burnside, PA she was the daughter of Louis and Ellen (Anderson) Johnson Sr. She attended school in Buffalo NY and was Salutatorian of 1939 Class of Mahaffey H.S., had driven a bakery truck in Buffalo NY, had worked in the parachute factory in Curwensville during World War II, and had been a Department Manager for Leitzinger’s Dept. Store in Clearfield prior to her retirement. She was a Published Author of short stories in the Readers Digest and The Grit and also was a former member of the Jordan Township Board of Elections.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville, where she had been the oldest living member of the church, was a past Sunday School Superintendent, had been a financial secretary, sang in the Grace Church Choir as well as the Joint Lutheran Choir, and was a member of the church’s Ladies Aid Society.

On August 18, 1945 in Leedsdale, PA she wed Walter G. Pearce who preceded her in death on October 5, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Elmer and sisters Hulda, Marie and Dorothy.

Surviving are 4 daughters: Patricia L. Quick and her husband James Sr. of Curwensville, Madelyn P. Smay and her husband Joseph Sr. of Clearfield, Susan P. Williams and her husband Harry Sr. and Arlene P. Morgillo and her husband Mickey both of Curwensville and 8 grandchildren Jamie Quick and wife Michele, Jennifer Beittel and husband Eric, Joseph Smay Jr. and wife Julie, Windy Alonso and husband Matt, Chip Williams and companion Leann Jenkins, James Morgillo, and Tonya Morgillo.

Also surviving are 14 great grandchildren. Nate and Emma Quick, Nathaniel, Hadley, and Molly Beittel, Michaela and Ricky Magnuson, Janessa Snyder, Falyn, Chloe, and Graycen Williams, Trevor, Pearce, and Natalie Alonso, a brother Louis Johnson Jr. and his wife Lois of Mahaffey, and a sister Madelyn Stiffler and her husband James of Indiana, PA.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Pearce will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville on Saturday June 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Richard Steuernagle officiating. Interment will follow in the Fruit Hill Cemetery New Millport, PA.

Friends will be received at The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Friday June 26, 2015 from 3-8 PM.

Joseph C. Mitchell , 90, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home.

He was born on January 24, 1925 in Clearfield, a son of the late Jack and Julia (DiPiazzio) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Riverside (APA-102).  After his service, he was employed by Harbison Walker Refractories for 45 years.  Mr. Mitchell was gifted at hand carving wooden figures and always loved to garden.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys F. (Beck) Mitchell whom he wed on November 18, 1950; two sons, Dan Mitchell and wife Susan of Westover and Jim Mitchell and wife Dawn of Clearfield; nine grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, June Mitchell of MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Morgillo; and five brothers, Philip, Anthony ‘Nin’, Charles, Harry and Eugene Mitchell.

In accordance of Mr. Mitchell’s wishes, there will be no public services held.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second Street, Clearfield.

She was born on April 7, 1945, in Clearfield, the daughter of late Anthony and Dorothy Marie (Snyder) Carfley.

Carol was a homemaker, loved her family, and enjoyed collecting Mickey Mouse items.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde G. Smith whom she married on December 16, 1961 in Clearfield, three children; Daniel Clyde Smith and his wife, Ginger of Clearfield, David Allen Smith and his wife, Brenda of Mahaffey and Sandra Dee Smith and her husband, Boyd, of Trenton, FL, ten grandchildren: Candra Cole, Jessica, Kaylee, Ryan, Alyssa, Caitlyn, Caleb, Derrick, and Austin Smith, and Johnathon Padgett; seven great grandchildren: MacKenzie,
Gabrielle, and R.J. Cole, Caydence and Samara Smith, Jaiden Beam, and Bentley Smith; four brothers and five sisters; Joyce Rivet and her husband, Leo, Shirley Maines and her husband, Pete, Jean Saltsman, Pat Carfley and his wife, Diane, Dorothy McCarthy and her husband, Robert, Albert Carfley, Thomas Carfley and his wife, Barbara, Yvonne Brown and her husband, Kenny and Jerry Carfley and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Thelma Mae Carfley, a brother, Kenneth Anthony Carfley, twin sister, Carrie Marie Wilt and an infant brother, Larry Lee Carfley.

Funeral Services will be held at Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bob Mundorff officiating. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 3-5PM and 6-8 PM and on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 10AM until the hour of the services.

Trudy M. Case, 72, of Osceola Mills, PA died on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, PA.

Born on April 12, 1943 in Philipsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gerald & Louise (Webster) Ritchie.   She married Michael J. Case on April 4, 1970 in Williamson, NY; he survives at home.

Mrs. Case was a member of the New Life Center in Philipsburg, PA.  She was a 1961 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School and earned her BA degree from Washington Bible College in Washington, DC.  She raised champion horses.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a son, Michael Case; and a brother, Rev. Robert Ritchie.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Case is survived by: two sons, Ritchie Case & his wife Beth of Frederick, MD and Jeffrey Case of DuBois, PA; a brother, Bennie A. Ritchie of Osceola Mills, PA; four grandchildren, Samantha Frye, Ritchie Case, Jr., Sarah Case and Julia Case all of Frederick, MD; a sister-in-law, Wanda Ritchie of Bedford, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, PA, with Rev. John T. Dill officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Walter Dean McCracken, 83, of Lumber City, passed away Wednesday evening June 24, 2015 at the Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.

Born October 15, 1931 in Lumber City, he was the son of Walter R. and Kathryn (Smith) McCracken.  Mr. McCracken was retired as a Foreman/Supervisor in the Tonawanda School System.  He was a US Naval Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of the Clearfield First Baptist Church, was an inventor and outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and gardening.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

On October 15, 1956 in Clearfield, he wed the former Dorothy Bailey who survives along with three children.  Wendy McCracken Wenger and husband Lynn of Mooresville, NC, Pamela McCracken Catipovic and husband Robert of Grand Island, NY, and Jeffrey Dean McCracken and wife Cristy of Smithsburg, MD.

Also surviving are 7 grandchildren 2 brothers and a sister, Richard McCracken and Fred McCracken and wife Linda both of Lumber City and Betty Aughenbaugh of Philipsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald McCracken.

At the request of the family there will be no public visitation.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Reverend Robert G. Achey officiating.  Interment will be in the Lumber City Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
