Rita A. Jacobson, 72, of Glen Richey died on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born Jan. 19, 1943 in Clearfield as the daughter of Hjalmer Verdnell and Mary (Triponey) Jacobson.

She was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church, Glen Richey. She worked for Kent Sportswear in Curwensville as a seamstress until her retirement.

She was a member of the Clearfield Hobby Garden Club, Ladies Aide Society of the church and the Glen Richey Fire Company Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and painting ceramics.

She is survived by a niece, Suzette Smith of Glen Richey with whom she resided; one brother, George Jacobson and his wife, Suzann of Glen Richey; one sister, Lois Mitchell and her husband, Richard of Glen Richey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ronald H. Jacobson, Mary Joan Smith and John V. Jacobson; maternal grandparents, Lucian and Ruth Triponey; paternal grandparents, Herman and Bessie Jacobson; and nephews, Aaron L. Jacobson and Ryan M. Jacobson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, with the Rev. Duane Stiner officiating.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Primitive Methodist Church, Glen Richey, 59 White Church Rd., Glen Richey 16837.

Laura M. “Josie” St. Clair, 69, of DuBois died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at her home.

Born Oct. 1, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Emma J. (Rhude) Volpe.

Prior to moving to DuBois, she was a security dispatcher for Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, NY.

She was a devout Christian and passionate about helping the Jews in Israel.  She loved her cats, to read and to watch movies, and most of all, she enjoyed being with her friends and family.

She is survived by two sons, Todd Hill of Indiana and Joel St. Clair and his wife, Annje Billock St. Clair of Brockport and her siblings, Mick Volpe and his wife, Marie of San Diego, Calif., Cindy Collins and her husband, Gary of Brockway and Jerry Volpe of DuBois.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Miller officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Ralph E. “Tiny” Cartwright, 81, of Sandy Ridge died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at UPMC Altoona.

Born Dec. 24, 1933, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Helen (Kanouff) Cartwright.

He married JoAnne (Renwick) Cartwright on Sept. 28, 1957 in Sandy Ridge. She survives at home.

Mr. Cartwright was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Sandy Ridge.

He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; an infant brother, James Cartwright; and a sister, Sally Lou Kephart.

Mr. Cartwright is survived by a daughter, Laura Jean Shoff and her husband, Bradley of Mount Lebanon; a sister, Bonnie Lee Johnson and her husband, Harry of Sandy Ridge; and two grandchildren, Emily Lane Shoff and Evan Alexander Shoff.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Forrest Bish officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

John W. Steiner, 47, of Morrisdale died Saturday, July 11, 2015 at his residence. Born June 11, 1968 in Philipsburg, he was the son of John H. and Joann Kanouff Steiner of Morrisdale.

Mr. Steiner was a 1986 graduate of the West Branch Area High School, Allport. He was a member of the Woodland Church of Christ. Mr. Steiner was employed by Ruan Logistics, DuBois.

He is survived by a daughter Ashley Steiner of Madera and a son, Andrew John Steiner of Niagara Falls, NY. He is survived by his step-children, Laura, Faith and Joey, all of Niagara Falls, NY.

He is also survived by three sisters, Cynthia Ecklund and her husband, Ron of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Helen Steiner of Clearfield and Dawna Klett and her husband, John of West Decatur and a brother, Chester Steiner and his wife, Sandra of Hazel Green, Ala.

Mr. Steiner was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with Christian brother, David Krupa officiating. Burial will be in the Reidy Cemetery, Wallaceton.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carmella Roslyn Carfley, 95, of Curwensville died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.

Born May 19, 1920 in Niles, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph and Madeline (Ettaro) Mitchell.

Mrs. Carfley had worked for various companies, including Campalong Shirt Factory, Ames Department Store, Tastee-Freez and Carfley’s Leisure Shop.

She was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She wed Raymond “Raymo” Carfley on Oct. 7, 1944 in Curwensville. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2007.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Genevieve Sorbera, Angeline Sturniolo and Mary Bivianno and four brothers, Anthony, Samuel, Frank and John Mitchell.  She was the last member of her generation.

Surviving are a son, Bernard “Bernie” Carfley and his wife, Harriet of Curwensville; two grandchildren, Joseph Carfley and his wife, Kristin of Lebanon and Jennifer Hutton and her husband, Jason of Ansonville; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Hutton and Cassie Carfley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and again from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Timothy Church Altar and Rosary Society at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Scripture Vigil Services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Holden Mark Allen ‘Frogman’ Shoop died Monday, July 13, 2015.

He was born Feb. 26, 2015 in DuBois, a son of Gregory Shoop and Sabrina James and her companion, Richard Kyle Bloom. He could always put a smile on anyone’s face.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Justin Marshall Allen ‘Jman’ Shoop; maternal grandparents, Lisa and William Stevens of Woodland and Thad James and Gina Cantolina of Shiloh; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Sarah Casner of Juniata; maternal great-grandparents, Margaret and Richard Swatsworth and Thomas and Celeste James, all of Shiloh; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a maternal great-grandfather, Melvin Bumbarger.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Brenda Libreatori officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Heather J. McAtee, 56, of Clearfield went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.

She was born Dec. 18, 1958 in Clearfield, the daughter of Francis “Sam” and Joan (Huddart) McAtee. She was affiliated with the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Sheelagh J. McAtee of Clearfield.

Ms. McAtee had Cerebral Palsy since birth. She was the light of her sisters’ life. Her sister thought she was the best gift God ever gave her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Liisa J. McAtee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Stump and Father James Davidson co-officiating.

Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery.

Clarence J. Baumgardner, 93, of Clearfield died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Baumgardner was born April 4, 1922 in Clearfield, the son of Harry and Helen (Johnston) Baumgardner.

He was a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School.

Mr. Baumgardner had worked for Wal-Mart, Clearfield Hospital and Harbison Walker.

He had also been the owner of four businesses: Fox’s Pizza Den, Jeani B. Market, Bummy’s and Reedsville Market.

He was a life member of the Second Ward Fire Company.

Mr. Baumgardner is survived by his wife, Imogene (Briggs) Baumgardner, to whom he was married June 20, 1942 in Clearfield.

He is survived by 12 children, Jacqulyn Stone and her husband, Glenn of State College; Cynthia Lanich and her husband, Edward, Robert Baumgardner, Rodger Baumgardner and his wife, Gay and Debra Stiner and her husband, Richard, all of Clearfield; Linda Taylor of Salt Lake City, Utah; Alan Von Baumgardner and his husband, Hector of Grand Island, Neb.; Robin Litz and her husband, Shawn of Evington, Va.; Dennis Baumgardner of Apopka, Fla.; Joyce Barr of Sebring, Ohio; Melinda Cowder and her husband, Danny of Goshen; and Andrea Cowder of Philadelphia; 32 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was the last member of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Baumgardner; a grandson, Stewart Taylor; two sisters, Mary Jane Healey and Margaret Kelly; a brother, Arthur Baumgardner; and an infant sister, Louise.

Honoring Mr. Baumgardner’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services.

Obituary Notice: Shirley Mae Clarke

Shirley Mae Clarke, 72, was born Shirley Mae Dosier, the daughter of William Dosier and Ada Ruth Dosier of Morris Township.

She was a loving daughter and sister who passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015.

The oldest of three children, Ms. Clarke was born and raised in Plainfield, NJ. She was born with Cerebral Palsy, a very difficult disease in 1942 and still so today.

Ms. Clarke’s mother, Ruth, was born Ada Ruth Berry on Summit Hill in Morris Township. She worked for many years to give Ms. Clarke and her other children a good life.

In 1973, Ruth married Ed Clarke and then returned to her roots in Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed her large extended family and friends.

Ms. Clarke and her mother were inseparable and spent all their time together. In the 66 years they both lived, they were never apart for more than a month. They were members of Summit Hill United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed her country music, her many pet cats and she loved collecting Elvis paraphernalia. She also enjoyed her time with her mother.

She continued to reside with her mother, Ruth, on Summit Hill until 1993, when they became residents of Fayetteville, NC and lived with her brother, Thomas and his family.

Ruth preceded her daughter in death in 2009. Ms. Clarke missed her mother deeply and never quite recovered her loss.

In 1993, Ms. Clarke and her mother, Ruth, began attending Crossroads Church in Lillington, where their faith continued to grow and their love for God and family fully blossomed.

Ms. Clarke is survived by her brother, Thomas Dosier and his wife, Mary Lu of Fayetteville, NC; her brother, Phillip Dosier of Morristown, NJ; her niece, Dawn Swackhammer and her husband, Brac of Dexter, Maine; and her nephew, Thomas Dosier Jr. of Bunnlevel, NC.

A funeral internment service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Summit Hill United Methodist Church with her brother, Phillip Dosier, officiating.

Ms. Clarke will be laid to final rest with mother after their long separation.

The family will receive friends Saturday at the church following the service.

George McClelland “C.B.” Burns, 92, of Belleville and formerly of Clearfield, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Valley View Haven in Belleville.

He was born Dec. 17, 1922 in McKees Rocks and the son of Paul Mc. And Hannah (Smiley) Burns.

Mr. Burns was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in England at the 188th General Hospital during World War II.

He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield. He served as a lay leader for four years and as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He belonged to the United Methodist Men and also served on the Administrative Board.

He retired from R.K.B. Distributers as a salesman after six years. He also was employed by Stull Company, P.M. Burns Farm and Supply and then at Jeff Carns Equipment as a salesman until 2002.

Mr. Burns was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 314, the Consistory of Altoona, Jaffa Shrine and Jaffa Shrine Oriental Band for several years, the Clearfield Band for 54 years and the Grampian Band for 30 years where he played the clarinet.

He belonged to the American Legion and Hobby Garden Club. He was a former member of the Clearfield Elks Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara G. Hollback and her husband, Arden of Homeworth, Ohio and Kathy G. Stump and her husband, the Rev. Charles Stump of Belleville; seven grandchildren, Jerry Hollback, Linda R. McMaster, Debi A. Slutz, Robin S. Schleich, Sara M. Wilson, Nathanael Stump and Thaddeus Stump; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul M. Burns of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vera (Wordley) Burns, to whom he was married Nov. 21, 1942 and whom died March 5, 2008; his sisters, Maude Burns and Laura Margaret Burns; an infant brother, Jack Burns; brothers, Thomas and Robert Burns; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Burns.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Military honors will be accorded by the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Masonic Lodge No. 314 will conduct its memorial service at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Harold R. Hubler, 86, of Osceola Mills died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.

Born May 31, 1929 in Morrisdale, he was the son of the late Kenneth R. and Aleathia M. (Maguire) Hubler.

He married the former Teresa Socash on Jan. 27, 1950 in Philipsburg. She survives at home.

Mr. Hubler was of the Christian faith.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of the Osceola Mills VFW No. 5020 and the Philipsburg AMVETS No. 159. He was also a member of the Decatur Township Planning Commission.

He was an owner/operator of a number of former local businesses, including a logging company; H & T Coal Company and the D & L Diner with his wife, Teresa. He was the owner/operator of 53 Energies, Osceola Mills.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hubler was preceded in death by: a daughter, Linda Rae Yebernetsky and and a brother, Calvin Hubler.

Along with his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Diane M. Colley of Indiana, Pa., Terrilee Millard and her husband, Gerald of Philipsburg, Danielle A. Bojalad of DuBois and Melanie D. Pryde and her husband, Chris of Osceola Mills and a son, Rick H. Hubler and his wife, Darlene of Osceola Mills.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Askey and her husband, Fred of Philipsburg and Betty Merritt and Gertrude Ferguson, both of Morrisdale.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Michelle Colley, Melissa Colley, Megan Colley, Bobby Yebernetsky and his wife, Mandee, Heather Hayward and her husband, Larry, Tyler Hubler and his fiancée, Briana Wisor, Devin Millard, Justin Millard, Ryan Frank, Jalen Pryde, Mason Pryde and Lowman Pryde; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Brook and Aubrey; and a son-in-law, Robert Yebernetsky of Ramey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 701 Lingle St., Osceola Mills.  Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Military honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.

Martin Pentz Hartzfeld, 95, of Chestnut Grove died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Born April 19, 1920 in Bloom Township, Clearfield County, he was the son of Ai and Annie (Pentz) Hartzfeld.

Mr. Hartzfeld was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as a field technician.

He was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church and the Grampian American Legion Post No. 0632.

He was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II. He first served on the Carrier USS Intrepid during basic training. The USS Trepid served gallantly in the Pacific Theater at the Marshall Islands, Truk, Leyte Gulf and Okinawa.

He later served on board the USS Estes, which served as the flagship for TF52 and control center for the Iwo Jima and Okinawa beach landings.

He wed the former Leone Thomas Hartzfeld, who preceded him in death May 11, 2002.  He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are a sister Mrs. Alta Phillips of Markleysburg; two nieces; three nephews; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Hartzfeld will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with Pastor Ronald Emery officiating. Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and again from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home.

Carol L. Gonder, 72, of Morrisdale died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at her home.

Born May 8, 1943 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Mary A. (Gearhart) Dixon.

She married Merle O. Gonder on Nov. 18, 1961 in Philipsburg. He survives at home.

Mrs. Gonder was a member of the Church of God in Winter Haven, Fla.

She was retired from Murata Erie in the shipping department. She graduated from the Philipsburg-Osceola High School class of 1961.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Jeri A. McPhail of West Decatur and three sisters, Joyce Cowfer of Osceola Mills, Judith Rice and her husband, James of Hawk Run and Linda Thomas and her husband, Ronald of Houtzdale.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Cory Pedmo and his fiancée, Kayla Snyder of Philipsburg and Kristyn Thompson and her husband, Tyler of Great Falls, Mont.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills with Pastor Christopher Thomas officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of services.

Sara Ann Kelly Witherite died peacefully after a short illness Friday, July, 17, 2015 amongst the love of her family.

Affectionately known as “Chuckie,” she was born Feb. 2, 1935 in DuBois, the oldest of four children to Sarah and John Kelly.

She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1952.

She married the love of her life, James Witherite Sr. on April 11, 1953 and shared their life and love with their eight natural children who multiplied by two, James Jr. and Rita; Marla and Ernie Larson; Mark and Rhonda; Richard and Kelly; Jeanne and Ronald Stahlman; Lisa and David Witherite-Rieg; John and Lisa; and Susan and Michael Weisner. Twenty-five grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren complete their legacy.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at their Sykesville home, “The Witherite Centre.”

A 15-year breast cancer survivor, she operated a successful income tax preparation service for more than 40 years.  She enjoyed her wine, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy! and Fox News.  She never missed the annual Atlantic City girls’ bus trip.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her sister, Carol Jean Mehok and her husband, Robert; brother, John “Jack” Kelly and his wife, Beryl; and sister-in-law, Carol Kelly.  In addition, her “adopted” daughters, Gay Flanders and Janet Mehok, were very dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Stanley Passierb; a brother, Leroy “Coke” Kelly; and an infant grandchild.

Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Richard C. Tomasone at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Sykesville.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family asks that donations be made to the DuBois Catholic Schools at P.O. Box 567, DuBois, PA 15801 and or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Daniel J. Meehan III, 72, of DuBois died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1942 in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Elizabeth J. (Quinlisk) Meehan.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

On Sept. 11, 1971, he married Diane M. (Kos) Meehan.  She survives.

He retired from United Cerebral Palsy in Falls Creek as head of transportation after many years of service.

He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17. He enjoyed going gambling with his wife.

He is survived by 12 siblings,  Mary Anne Cameron of Akron, Ohio; Patrick Meehan of Johnson City, Tenn.; Jane Gelnett of Rockton; Doug Russell of Indiana, Pa.; Barbara Flores of Dallas, Texas; Rosie Truance of Rossiter; and Richard Meehan, Cathy Michael, Julie Meehan, Thomas Meehan, James Meehan and John Meehan, all of Punxsutawney.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc. A scriptural wake service will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the member of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Burial will follow in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, Sykesville.

Memorials may be placed with Penn Highlands Hospice, and or Oncology Hematology Associates, both at 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.

Richard P. Washic Jr., 41, of Allport died Friday, June 17, 2015 in Crawford County.

Born Jan. 31, 1974 in Tyrone, he was the son of Richard P. Washic Sr. and his wife, Mary Ann of Houtzdale and Sharon Grubbs of Osceola Mills.

Mr. Washic was a 1992 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School.  He was Orthodox by faith.

He was a sergeant first class stationed in Coraopolis, where he was in the Second Battalion in the Army Reserves Career Division.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 515, Osceola Mills; the American Legion Post 591, Houtzdale; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Smithmill; the Loyal Order of the Moose, Houtzdale; the Croatian Club, Smoke Run; Freeberg Social Club, Houtzdale; the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, Frenchville; and the Morann Citizens Club, Morann.

Mr. Washic was a lieutenant for the Quehanna Boot Camp, Karthaus. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his family.

He was married to Nicole Ziembo Washic. She survives in Allport.

He is survived by three daughters, Jenessa Ceprish, Paige Washic and Skyler Ceprish, all of Allport.

He is also survived by two sisters, Nicole M. Smith and her husband, Chris of Clearfield and Laura Mihalko and her husband, Doug of Madera; a brother, Kevin Brady and his wife, Dana of West Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Washic was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Eva Grubbs; his paternal grandparents, Peter and Irene Washic; and one brother, Stephen Washic.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport, with the Rev. Robert Ford, Father David Lewis and the Rev. James Hollister officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Marys Orthodox Cemetery, Madera.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Honor Guard will be provided by the Quehanna Boot Camp and Second Battalion ARCD. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Masonic Lodge No. 515, Shriners Hospital for Children, Masonic Hall, 12 Dogwood Ln., Osceola Mills, PA 16666.

Patricia L. Gorton, 72, of Clearfield died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Gorton was born April 30, 1943 in Clearfield, the daughter of Walter C. and Delma K. (Thompson) Johnston.

She had worked as a beautician with her mother for many years.

She then took time to become a homemaker, raising her daughter and supporting her husband through his ministry at the various churches he served. She had many joys, including singing in the church choirs.

Mrs. Gorton was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her mother, Delma of Curwensville; a daughter, Chandra D. Gorton and her fiancé, Bill Carbaugh of Clearfield; and a granddaughter, Charlee A. Carbaugh.

Mrs. Gorton was preceded in death by her father; her husband, the Rev. Rodger J. Gorton; and her beloved husky, Saba.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis and Pastor Sallie Swenson co-officiating.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donald Harvey Leonard, 73, of Grampian died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born Feb. 5, 1942 in Clearfield, he was the son of Kenneth B. and Mildred (Peoples) Leonard.

Mr. Leonard had first worked in the White House as a Presidential Secretary for 11 years under the Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon Administrations.  He was retired from the North American Refractories Company.

He was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church, Luthersburg. He was a former member of the Curwensville L.O.O.M.

On Sept. 21, 1963 in Washington D.C., he wed the former Mary Hanley. She survives.

He is also survived by five children, Donald H. Leonard Jr. and his wife, Lisa and Thomas P. Leonard, both of Grampian; Deborah M. Condon and her husband, Ronald of Olanta; Kenneth M. Leonard and his wife, Amanda of Falls Creek; and Christina A. Wise and her husband, Terry of Mill Run.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother, Norma Bowman and her husband, Charles and Kenneth W. Leonard and his wife, Jean, both of Curwensville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jerremy; and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Bennett.

Services for Mr. Leonard will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with the Rev. Charles M. Lee Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Wood Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

L. Hays Chambers, former Dean of Student Affairs at Penn State DuBois, died recently at the DuBois Nursing Home.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was loved by many and a friend to all but most importantly, a devoted servant of God.

Mr. Chambers retired in 1980 after 20 years of service to the Penn State DuBois campus.

He was one of those rare people who enjoyed every day he spent at the campus, as it allowed him to be in contact and work with the students he so enjoyed.

Mr. Chambers born March 4, 1920, a World War II Navy veteran was also active in the community. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, DuBois Community Center, past President and Rotary club member as well as a Paul Harris Fellow.

He held many positions at First United Methodist Church, DuBois. He was a former Jaycees Distinguished Service Award recipient.

He is survived by his son, John W. and his daughter-in-law, Lori, along with granddaughters, Olivia and Emily, all of DuBois; a brother, William of Cumberland, Md.; and a brother, Richard of Williamsport, Md.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in DuBois with Pastor Lance Tucker officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.

Julia M. Kritzer, 82, of Woodland died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

She was born July 2, 1933 in Greenwood Township, a daughter of the late George H. and Sarah V. (Anderson) Passmore.

Mrs. Kritzer was employed at Dumont, the Captain’s Table Restaurant, the Little Pizza Shop, Woodland, and Michael Owens and Sons.

She was a 1952 graduate of the Curwensville High School. She attended the Eastern Bible Institute in Greene Lane, Pa., from 1952-1953.

She was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Clearfield, for more than 50 years and held many offices during that time. Mrs. Kritzer will be remembered for taking great pride in supporting armed service members and veterans.

She is survived by three sons, Roger Kritzer and his wife, Sharon of Irvona, Ronald Kritzer and his wife, Mary Beth of Lancaster and Randal Kritzer and his wife, Rebecca of Manheim.

She is survived by seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sisters, Helen Bentley and Alice Soule, both of Ohio, and Betty Miller of New Jersey and four brothers, Walter Passmore, Ed Passmore and his wife, Bonnie, Elliss Passmore and his wife, Shirley and Rodney Passmore and his wife, Kathy, all of Mahaffey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. George ‘Duffy’ Kritzer on Nov. 10, 2000 and to whom she wed Oct. 20, 1956 in Clearfield.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Kritzer; two grandsons, Travis Kritzer and PFC Bradley Kritzer; five sisters, Wanda Pieron, Edna Kraften, Ida Passmore, Ruth Kurten and Alta Peoples; and two brothers, Charles and George Passmore.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Pastors David and Clifford Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
