Robert Legran “Bob” Boop, 82, a loving husband, father and grandfather went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015.

He was born in Laurel Park on June 6, 1933, where he grew up in the beautiful mountains of that area, as the son of the late Chester R. and Pearl B. (Bell) Boop.

He married his wife, Elizalee H. (Hummel Spizzirri) Boop, on Feb. 14, 1986 in New Millport.

Mr. Boop was a pilot and flew his own airplane. He loved flying over the mountains of Pennsylvania. He often took off from Clearfield to fly over the countryside.

He was a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and flew on search and rescue missions.

He was in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War in the Engineering Division. While in the service, he took radio logical classes in Japan and became an instructor.

Upon returning home from the U.S. Army, he moved to Clearfield and became the Clearfield County Chief Radiological Officer. He instructed the first responders and others about how to survive a nuclear attack.

Mr. Boop was a volunteer at the Emergency Operation Center and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Additionally, he became a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross.

He was employed as a stone mason, carpenter, welder and combustion technician for Narco. He loved to invent little things for around the house to make things more efficient.

He was happiest when he was able to work in his shop building remote control airplanes. After he stopped flying airplanes, he flew remote controlled airplanes.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield. He worked diligently for many years for the church as trustee chairman, and he was a member of the choir.

Mr. Boop’s survivors include his wife of 29 years, Elizalee Boop, and five children, Robert C. Boop and his wife, Dotti of Plattsburgh, NY, Debra L. Russell and her husband, Steve of Noblesville, Ind., Donna L. Gallaher and her husband, Robert of Clearfield, Russella J. Bell of Mount Union and Roger F. Boop and his wife, Bonnie of West Decatur.

His survivors include four step-children, Robert J. Spizzirri and his wife, Mitzi, David M. Spizzirri and his wife, Marianne and Megan L. Renno and her husband, Vito, all of Steelton, and Tyna M. Brinser and her husband, Michael of Middletown.

Also, his other survivors include 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Carole Olmstead of Methuen, Mass., Patricia Heilner of Harrisburg and M. Virginia Hupp of Liverpool; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Chester Boop, and infant daughter, Karen Boop.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Capital Fund of Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Second St., Clearfield, PA 16830.

Robert L. LaBorde, 68, of Sykesville died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at his home. Born Feb. 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Lucena M. (Dixon) LaBorde.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.

On Oct. 25, 1969, he married Patricia A. (Himes) LaBorde.  She survives.

He was the supervisor of the security department for 20 years at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was the owner of LaBorde’s Outdoor Bait Shop in Sykesville.  He enjoyed his family and was Protestant by faith.

He is survived by his children, Robin Feldman of DuBois and Paul LaBorde and his wife, Sharon of Sykesville; his daughter-in-law, Tonya Knisely of Reynoldsville; a sister, Gertrude Yohe of New York; two brothers, Walter J. LaBorde and his wife, Jane and Richard LaBorde and his wife, Juanita, both of Sykesville; and eight grandchildren, Shawn, Samantha, Tye and Kiera LaBorde and Ryan, Derrick, Nathan and Sophie Feldman.

He was preceded in death by his son, Adam M. LaBorde.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A ritual service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home with Fr. Daniel Kresinski officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Margaret B. “Marge” Bednarchik, 89, of Moon Township died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015. Born Dec. 7, 1925 in Ramey, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Ann Shedlock.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Bednarchik and mother of Paula Wolfe of Scottsdale, Ariz., William (Judy) Bednarchik of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jane (Tim) Wilkinson of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Barbara (the late Dave) Baker of Hopewell Township.

She was the beloved grandmother of Bryan Wolfe, Roby and Lori Bednarchik, Rachael and Alex Wilkinson, Alison (John) Dzienis and Jake (Bethany) Baker and great-grandmother of Braylan and Jillian Bednarchik and Gray and Valencia Baker. She was also the beloved sister of the late Helen, Joseph, John, Anthony Walter and Leonard.

She was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Church. She loved her family and was loved by all who knew her.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Copeland Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Margaret Mary Church.

Mrs. Bednarchik will then be moved on Wednesday to the Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Ramey, for a visitation from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

A 10 a.m. Thursday Blessing service will be held at the funeral home followed by a burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Ramey.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Rd., Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090, toward the purchase of a blanket warmer for the Beaver Unit.

Tillie Agnes Witherow, 89, of Curwensville died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born Oct. 17, 1925 in Ramey, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Frankovich) Lutz.

Mrs. Witherow was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

In 1949 in Houtzdale, she wed Arthur C. Witherow who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1996.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Lutz; an infant brother, Joseph Lutz; and seven sisters, Josephine Goldsmith, Rose Caber, Kathryn Kephart, Frances Gavlak, Helen Matchock, Agnes Bartek and Mary Nechamkin.

Surviving are a son, Craig Witherow and his wife, Wendy of Curwensville; a granddaughter, Megan Witherow of Curwensville; and three sisters,  Margaret Wojtowich of Ramey, Verna Walstrom of Houtzdale and Blanche Mandel of Philipsburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., Curwensville, and again from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Thursday when the procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited by members of the St. Timothy Altar and Rosary Society at 3 p.m. and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home.

Diane L. Bodle, 57, of Allport died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 30, 1957 in Clearfield, a daughter of William and Fay (Duttry) Winters.

She worked at Kurtz Bros. in Clearfield as a bookkeeper and in personnel at Consolidated Container Company in Berwick until her retirement.

She was a Methodist by faith. She collected art glass, enjoyed antiquing and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Her survivors include her parents and husband, Leslie Bodle to whom she was married Aug. 28, 1987 in Berwick; her daughter, Holly Chrostowski and her husband, Chad of Cranberry Township; her granddaughter, Emma Chrostowski; two sisters, Cynthia McCorkle and her husband, Kirk of Clearfield and Andrea Winters of Lanse.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or to Susan G. Komen, Pittsburgh, 1133 S. Braddock Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15218.

Penelope Sue Hugney, 61, of Frenchville died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born Sept. 15, 1953 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes (Singer) Hanley.

She married Stanley M. Hugney on June 1, 2010 in Frenchville. They were companions for 27 years; he survives at home.

Mrs. Hugney was of the Christian faith.  She was a homemaker and graduated from the former Lock Haven High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Young; a brother, Paul Hanley; and a step-brother, Fred Bechdel.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Hugney is survived by three daughters, Nicole Hanley and her wife, Kristie of Lock Haven, Jackie Williams and her husband, Ken of Frenchville and Lori Knowes and her husband, Steven of Philipsburg.

She is survived by a sister, Elen Bechdel of Beech Creek; three brothers, Gay Hanley and his wife, Dolly and Gerald Hanley and his wife, Vickie, both of Beech Creek, and Ronald Hanley of Orvison; three grandchildren, Earnest “Dewey” Cochran, Ryann Knowles and Taylor Shaffer; and a sister-in-law, Clarissa Hanley.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

Carroll M. Leaf Sr., 79, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at his home.

Born Sept. 17, 1935 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Walter and Madeline (Stump) Leaf.

On Sept. 21, 1956, he married Lucille G. (Keeney) Leaf.  She survives.

He retired as a credit manager from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio after 32 years of service.

He enjoyed sports and enjoyed being a vendor at flea markets.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carroll M. Leaf Jr. of Lebanon and R. Valerie Mann and her husband, Gary of Massilon, Ohio; six grandchildren, Josh, Jake, Kristin and Nicholas Leaf and Cassandra and Veronica Mann; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lucinda Leaf and his brother, Robert Leaf.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Finksburg, Md.

Robert W. Conklin, 82, of Philipsburg went to his Savior on Sept. 4, 2015 after a long and courageous battle.

Born Nov. 2, 1932 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Norman and Catherine (Smiley) Conklin.

Mr. Conklin was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was an active participant in a variety of organizations, including the Moshannon Lodge No. 391, Free & Accepted Masons, Philipsburg; the Hemlock Rod & Gun Club; the Reliance Fire Co. of Philipsburg; and the United Commercial Travelers.

He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 1173, Philipsburg, of which he served as exalted ruler and was a trustee.

Mr. Conklin was also a 1951 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.

In his career, Mr. Conklin held various sales and sales management roles with Penn Industrial, Capital Equipment Sales and Smeal Enterprises, all of Philipsburg.

His work success was related in large part to his work initiative and his ability to establish and maintain relationships.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Theodora J. “Teddy” Johnston, to whom he was married on Jan. 20, 1953 in Winchester, Va.

Mr. Conklin is also survived by two sons, N. David Conklin and his wife, Liz of Roaring Spring and Jeffrey J. Conklin and his wife, Betty L. of Montgomery, Texas, and a brother, Eugene Conklin of Philipsburg.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Stephanie A. Beauvais and her husband, Jason of Houston, Texas, Joshua David Conklin and his wife, Rhonda of Curwensville and Sarah M. Bechtel and her husband, Jason of Curryville and seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kaden and Lauren Beauvais of Houston, Texas, Haylee and Isaac Conklin of Curwensville and Norah and Jakob Bechtel of Curryville.

While his father died when he was young, Mr. Conklin took advantage of the opportunity he had with his sons that his father did not have with him. His love of his sons during their youth was always evident especially considering their distinct and varied interests.

Whether it was fishing, hunting, being a scoutmaster or a little league baseball coach, he was always there with his guidance and companionship. This love was a constant throughout his life with his wife, his sons and their families.

Another constant was his quick wit and ability to make people laugh even toward the end of his health battle.

Funeral services for Mr. Conklin will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Walker officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 170, Philipsburg, PA 16866 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Charles C. “Charlie” Brown, 75, of Curwensville died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at UPMC Altoona.

Mr. Brown was born Aug. 29, 1940 in Clearfield, the son of John and Elizabeth (Strong) Brown.

He retired from Greenwich Collieries Coal Mines after 20 years of service. He had also been employed by Barnes and Tucker Coal Co. and Clearfield Cheese.

Mr. Brown was affiliated with the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield.

He was a member of the UMWA, Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club and the National Rifle Association.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam Era.

Mr. Brown is survived by a daughter, Carol L. Gibson of Curwensville; five grandchildren, Robert Clair Smay Jr. and his wife, Trish, Lori Ann McKendrick and her husband, Brad, Sherry Lee Warren and her husband, Richard, all of Clearfield, Kenneth C. Smay of Curwensville and Joseph Dale Johnson and his wife, Kristy of Woodland; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan E. Broom and his her husband, Paul of Colorado and Sara Jane Brown of Clearfield; and a brother, John Brown and his wife, Carol of Ocean City, Md.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Carol Brown, who died Feb. 2, 2011; and a son, Clair “Ross” Johnson in 1994.

Honoring Mr. Browns’ wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Cemetery with Dr. Duane White officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.

James Carl Hatten, 93, of Grampian died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 11, 1921 in Chestnut Grove, he was the son of Robert and Rhoda (Pierce) Hatten.

Mr. Hatten had first worked for Clarence Thomas Coal Mining Company as a heavy equipment operator.

He was then the co-owner of K&H Coal Company. And, finally up until his retirement, he owned the Hatten Mining Company.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, where he served in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

He was also a member of the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian.

On Jan. 11, 1941, he wed the former Martha Winifred Danvir, who preceded him in death on April 8, 1995.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deloris Hatten; a grandson, James “Jim” Hatten; and 10 brothers and sisters, Ida, Clyde, Andrew, Betty, Lester, Jessie, Arvella, Bertha, Beulah and Margaret.  He was the last member of his generation.

Surviving are six children, Norman E. Hatten Sr. and his wife, Sandy, JoAnne Nelen and Judy McCombs and her husband, Edward, all of Irishtown; James “Terry” Hatten and his wife, Tammy of Curwensville; Patricia Litz and her husband, Mounty of Spring Mills; and Karen Hatten of Clearfield.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Grampian with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Friends will be received Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. when the procession will depart for the cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or any veterans help group or veterans organization.

Mary K. Bonsall, 93, of Troutville died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at Christ the King Manor.

Born July 17, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Allshouse) Schoch.

On Nov. 9, 1946, she married Harry W. Bonsall Jr.  He preceded her in death on July 9, 2009.

Prior to her marriage, she worked for Sylvania in Emporium.  She had also worked at Cowdrick’s Drug Store in DuBois and the U.S. Post Office in Troutville.

She was a member of Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ.  She also was a member of the Brady Grange and the Luthersburg Over 50 Club.

She loved to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.  She loved to go for car rides and most of all, she enjoyed being with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Hartzfeld and Nancy London and her husband, Harold, both of Punxsutawney, and Becky Anderson and her husband, Richard of DuBois; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.  She was also expecting a new great-grandson in December.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Wendell, Ronald and Harold Schoch and her son-in-law, James Hartzfeld.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Audra Krise officiating.

Burial will be in Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Leo J. Bagrosky, 96, of Midland, Mich., and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at Aleda Lutz Veterans Hospital in Saginaw, Mich.

Born April 9, 1919 in Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Slogoski) Bagrosky.

He married his first wife, Mabel (Gallaher) Bagrosky, on Feb. 14, 1943 in Norman, Okla.; she died May 21, 1973.

He wed his second wife, Lucille (Merrell) Carson Bagrosky, on Aug. 12, 1976 in Philipsburg; she preceded him in death on April, 24, 2000.

Mr. Bagrosky was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He was a member of VFW Post 5020 in Osceola Mills and B.P.O. Elks No. 1173 in Philipsburg.

Mr. Bagrosky was a retired machinist. He was a 1938 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Miscavish and a brother-in-law, Andrew Comitz Jr.

Mr. Bagrosky is survived by two step-daughters, Barbara Chumard and her, husband, Gef of Middleton, NY and Kathleen Makuch and her husband, Garry of Mechanicsburg; two sons, John L. Bagrosky and his wife, Candice of Columbia, Md., and Lee E. Bagrosky and his wife, Mary Pat of Midland, Mich.; a sister, Rita Comitz of Osceola Mills; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Father Robert J. Horgas officiating.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Military honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.

William W. Britton, 74, of Falls Creek died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born Feb. 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Allene J. (Milliron) Britton.

Mr. Britton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an industrial engineer with Modern Tool and Die (MTD) in Detroit, Mich.

He was married to Sharyn Rose (Nester) Britton.  She preceded him in death.

He was a life-time member of the James J. Patterson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 813. He was also a member of the Falls Creek Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 965.

Mr. Britton was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.

He is survived by three children, Jennifer Flemish of Atlanta, Ga., William Britton of Seattle, Wash., and Alexander Britton of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Jane Smith of Falls Creek, Linda Meyer of Waterford, Mich., and Karen McMahon of Rochester, NY; a brother, Ronald E. Britton of Falls Creek; and a grandson, Trace Flemish. He is also survived by his companion, Connie Craynak.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John H. and Dean Britton.

There will be no public visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the chapel at Beechwoods Cemetery with Pastor Dave Koehler officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded from the cemetery by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Beechwoods Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Warren L. Fox died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at his residence surrounded by those whom he held most dear. He was aged 80 years, five months and 22 days.

Born March 19, 1935 in Curwensville, he was the son of the late Vern and Elizabeth Stauffer Fox. He was reared on Reed Street in Clearfield.

Mr. Fox was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served three years with the Third Armored Cavalry in Germany, at which time he traveled extensively throughout Europe.

He was a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He retired after 35 years in sales at Kurtz Bros. in 1999.

He was a cordial man who took great delight in a simple meal with his friends. He was mild-mannered and unassuming, and he had a steadfast conviction in his conservative values.

He could always be counted on to give a candid and frank response to the issue at hand. He will always be remembered as an affable gentleman by all whom were blessed to have known him.

Mr. Fox was a founding member of the Central Mountains Region Antique Automobile Club. He was also a member of the Sykesville Hunting Club, the B.P.O.E. Lodge 540, the Golden Bison and the United Commercial Travelers.

He attended the Clearfield Presbyterian Church.

He received numerous awards from various organizations over the years, including the Clearfield County Historical Society for meritorious service in 1982, 1998 and 2009, the Clearfield Rotary Citizen of the Year in 2012 and the Clearfield Area Chamber of Commerce Directors’ Choice Award for his commitment to the betterment of the Clearfield County community in 2015.

He was a director emeritus of the Clearfield County Historical Society, where he served as chairman of the Publications Committee for many years. The CCHS’s large collection of books and reprints currently for sale are due mainly to his efforts.

One of his crowning achievements was the indexing and reprinting of the 1878 Caldwell’s Atlas. After his retirement, he could be found at the museum on a daily basis. In the CCHS’s new William B. Alexander V Research Center, the Warren L. Fox Research Room was named to honor his nearly 40 years of devoted service.

On Aug. 15, 1959, he wed Gweneth Carr, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, James and his wife, Donna and their son, Joel; David and his wife, Heather and their children, Elijah, Carrie and Senna and Eric and his daughters, Victoria and Tesla.

He is also survived by a brother, John Fox and his wife, Gloria and a sister, M. Jean Fox, all of Clearfield.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville, with the Rev. Robert Mellgard and Richard Barkley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clearfield County Historical Society, 511 Van Valzah Ave., Clearfield.

Thomas R. Baka, 44, of Brockway died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at UPMC Altoona.

Born Oct. 8, 1970 in Erie, he was the son of Thomas E. and Irma (Wagenknecht) Baka.  His parents survive and live in Brockway.

On June 9, 1994, he married Janet (LaBorde) Baka.  She survives.

He was a self-employed machinist and tool maker.

He loved fishing, hunting and all outdoor activities.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association.  He also loved to work on computers.

He graduated from Penn State College of Technology in Williamsport.

Mr. Baka is survived by his daughter, Stephanie R. Baka of DuBois.

There will be no public visitation.

Private family services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Mary M. Lepionka, 92, of DuBois died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at Christ the King Manor.

Born Feb. 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Karoline (Kruk) Polohonki.

She graduated from the DuBois High School in 1941.

In 1950, she married Stanley A. Lepionka.  He preceded her in death in May of 1972.

She worked as a staff accountant for 38 years at various accounting firms in DuBois, retiring from Mauthe, Yutzey & Gabler.

She was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Infant of Prague Society.

She also belonged to the Christ the King Manor Auxiliary. Her past activities include belonging to the Polish Folk Singers, the St. Michael’s Senior Choir and the Pulaski Ladies Auxiliary.

She was also a notary public for more than 30 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and going to the casino.

She is survived by her children, Denise McMillen and her husband, Donald of DuBois; Kevin Lepionka and his wife, Eileen of Gahanna, Ohio; and Ronald Lepionka and his wife, Therese of Atlanta, Ga.

She is also survived by a sister, Josephine Zbieg of DuBois; three grandchildren Kristen, Stephanie and Samantha; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Myron Polohonki and two sisters, Olga Pastwa and Helen Cheslock.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

The rosary will be prayed at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to be followed immediately by a scriptural wake service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Charles Kaza as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Joanne M. Martin, 77, of Drifting died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at her residence. Born July 4, 1938 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Nagray Franek.

Mrs. Martin was a member of the St. Severin Roman Catholic Church, Drifting.

She was married to Joseph D. Martin Sr. on Dec. 1, 1956 at the St. Severin Roman Catholic Church, Drifting. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2009.

She is survived by four sons, Joseph D. Martin Jr. and his wife, Tammy, Jeff Martin and Jerry Martin and his wife, Betty, all of Drifting, and John Martin and his wife, Karen of Williamsport.

She is survived by three sisters, Margaret Seal of Vassar, Mich., Rose Ann Hoover of Houtzdale and Miriam Koleno of Drifting; two brothers, Arthur Franek and his wife, Alice of Casanova and John Franek and his wife, Nancy of Ginter.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-grand child; and one step-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Martin and three brothers, George, Steve and Andrew Franek.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Severin Roman Catholic Church, Drifting, with the Father David A. Perry Jr. officiating.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Donald E. Smith Jr., 68, of Houtzdale died on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Jan. 4, 1947 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Donald E. Smith Sr. and Faye (Uncles) Smith.

He married Sara J. (Fleck) Smith on Aug. 18, 1968 in West Decatur. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2008.

Mr. Smith was of the Christian faith.  He was a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club.

He was retired from Diehl Contracting. He was a graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald M. Smith and a son-in-law, Sean P. Murphy.

Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Connie L. Demko and her husband, John of Morann and Crystal L. Diehl and her husband, Scott of Coalport and a son, Todd S. Smith and his companion, Kim of Houtzdale.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret Harvey and her husband, John of Drifting; 13 grandchildren, Courtney Callahan, Brittney Smith, Kyrstie Murphy, Kelsie Murphy, Kristin Murphy, Keshia Smith, Destiny Smith, Justine Smith, Candice Diehl, Coollette Diehl, Corrin Diehl, Carissa Chandler  and Carlie Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Riley, Noah and Carter.

The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Osceola Mills.  Burial will be at the Bradford Cemetery in Woodland.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

John E. Cutler, 72, of Clearfield died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at UPMC Altoona. He was born April 6, 1943 in Hyde, a son of the late Robert and Lillian Cutler.

Mr. Cutler was employed by Glenn Irwin Corp. as a coal miner. Previously, he had worked at Bud’s Cycle Center in Clearfield.

In his spare time, Mr. Cutler loved to fish and spend time camping. He was a Methodist by faith.

He is survived by his wife, Diana (Wisor) Cutler, to whom he was wed June 1, 1961.

He is survived by three daughters, Darlene Cutler and her companion, Grover ‘Chopper’ Cutlip of DuBois, Madelene Cutler of Hyde and Bobbi Heichel and her husband, Shaun of Clearfield.

He is also seven grandchildren, Lisa, Carey and Jennifer Durnell, Tiffany Cutler, Alisha and Destiny Graham and Kyle Cutler and seven great-grandchildren, Johni Durnell, Paige and Devin Pearsall, Miley and Allie Cutler and Seth and Carla Durnell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Willard, Robert, Samuel and Burton and two sisters, Pauline and Jessie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Stoneville Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

John G. “Jack” Perks, 82, of Tyrone and formerly of Philipsburg and Osceola Mills, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 at Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg.

Born Jan. 23, 1933 in Osceola Mills, he was a son of the late Joseph Maxwell and Margaret Irene (Shinafelt) Perks.

He was a 1950 graduate of Osceola Mills High School. He retired from the railroad in 1994, where he was a car inspector.

Years prior he was a milkman and owned the local distributor Sealtest.

He was of the Presbyterian faith and a former deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg.

He was also a member of the Altoona Jaffa Shrine, Philipsburg B.P.O. Elk Lodge No. 1173 and Philipsburg F&AM Moshannon Lodge No. 391.

Mr. Perks was also a volunteer fireman for Hope Fire Co No. 2.

He was an avid fan of all Penn State sports and the Steelers. He loved gardening, enjoyed walking and trout fishing, watching wrestling and having the Penn State Creamery’s “Alumni Swirl” ice cream.

He was especially proud that all of his children graduated from college.

On Dec. 28, 1950 in Cumberland, Md., he married Joan Marie (Wilson) Perks, who died July 3, 1977.

He later married Linda L. (Irvin) Perks on Aug. 23, 1985 in Cumberland, Md. She survives at home.

Mr. Perks is survived by a son, John A. Perks and his wife, Dawn of Warrenton, Va., and four daughters, Janice Tome of York, Joan M. Perks and her significant other, Dan Kohr of Marmora, NJ, Julie A. Jones and her husband, Walt of West Deptford, NJ and Jennifer D. Perks of Philadelphia.

He is also survived by four granddaughters, Jasmine R. Tome, Jacquline Tome Owens, Stephanie Perks and Caitlin Perks and two great grandsons, Jack Maxwell Owens and Joseph Michael Owens.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, with Timothy Guyer, chaplain of Southern Care Hospice.

Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
