Obituary Notice: Raymond A. Smith

Raymond A. Smith, 83, of DuBois died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born Oct. 13, 1933 at his home in Beechwoods, he was the son of the late James H. and Dorothy (Bovaird) Smith.

On Jan. 15, 1952, he married Shirley B. (Shaffer) Smith.  She survives.

Mr. Smith was a retired farmer, insurance salesman and land investor.

He was a member of the Treasure Lake Church, where he served as a deacon and was active in church affairs.

He was an avid hunter and he enjoyed both sports and music as a participant as well as a fan. 

In high school, Mr. Smith played basketball and was recognized on the all-state team. He played baseball and was a member of the DuBois Area High School Marching Band. 

He also sang in a barbershop quartet and various choirs in the area.

He is survived by a son, Stephen M. Smith and his wife, Allyson of State College; a daughter, Sherri L. Gelnette and her husband, Jeff of DuBois; a daughter-in-law, Jill Smith of DuBois; two sisters, Mary Jane Bleil and her husband, Jack of Cleveland, Ohio and Jeannie Whitsett of DuBois; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, David B. Smith; two brothers, John “Jack” and Robert “Wesley” Smith; and a sister, Betty Mohney.

There will be no public visitation.

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Treasure Lake Church with Pastor Richard Whitaker officiating.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family requests that instead memorials contributions be made to the Treasure Lake Church, 226 Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA 15801.

Gerald Leslie “Jerry” Bressler, 55, of Clearfield died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 13, 1961 in Elizabeth, NJ.  He was the co-owner, along with his wife, and operator of J & J Transporters of Clearfield.

On Nov. 26, 2011 in Hollidaysburg, he wed the former Janet L. Kephart, who survives, along with his mother, Ruth Ellen (Mays) Bressler of Curwensville and his father of Ohio. 

Also surviving are three children, Justin Bressler of Texas, Jennifer Wingard and her husband, Bill of Dayton and Geri L. Bressler of Curwensville and two step-children, Erika Huffard and her significant other, Mike Baldinger of Alum Bank, Pa., and Ryan Huffard and his significant other, Debbie Baker of Altoona.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; a brother, David Bressler and his wife, Lisa of Curwensville; and a sister, Jodi Pringle and her husband, Al of State College.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Bressler.

There will be no public visitation and private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Leslie G. “Bud” Stiner officiating.

A public “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 21, 2017 at the Wildwood Inn II, 2489 Curwensville-Grampian Hwy., Grampian, PA 16838.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St., Clearfield, PA 16830.

Betty A. Slogaski, 82, of Houtzdale died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born Aug. 25, 1934 in Coalport, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Smolko) Kashtock.

On July 2, 1951 in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, Coalport, she married Leo R. Slogaski Sr., who preceded her in death in 2009.

She loved playing bingo, cooking, baking and canning.

She will be deeply missed by five children, Kenneth L. Slogaski and his wife, Dianne of Coalport, Sandra L. Berg and her husband, Charles  of Morrisdale, Robert J. Slogaski of Pittsburgh, Michelle Phillips and her husband, Robert of Glen Hope and Leo R. Slogaski Jr. of Houtzdale and a sister, Marge Brink of Indiana.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kendra L. Slogaski, Nicole Russell, Joseph Kovalcin, Elizabeth Phillips; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Lindsey, Mary Betza and Helen Parker and three brothers, John, Edward and Andy Kashtock.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., Ramey, with the Rev. Zab Amar officiating.  Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.

Barbara J. Shore, 85, of Clearfield died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at UPMC Shadyside.

Mrs. Shore was born Sept. 30, 1931 in Plymouth, England, the daughter of Ernest G. and Elsie Seldon.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Shore was a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Clearfield.

She enjoyed spending time with her family who dearly loved her.

She is survived by three children, Patrick L. Shore and Anthony D. Shore, both of Clearfield, and Hilary J. Tingle and her husband, Jeffrey of Philipsburg; a grandson, Dean Tingle; a granddaughter, Allyson Tingle; a sister, Shirley Bowden and her husband, Leonard of Pyle, South Wales, United Kingdom; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shore was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean H. Shore, who died Dec. 31, 1988 and to whom she was married Aug. 9, 1958; a brother, Eric Seldon; and two sisters, Phyllis Lewis and her husband, Idris and Margaret Skinner and her husband, Raymond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at with Father Clifford Johnston as celebrant. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield.

Violet E. Kowalski, 88, of Clearfield died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

She was born May 31, 1928 in Commodore, a daughter of the late Harry and Lula (Markel) Kitchen.

Mrs. Kowalski was one of the original hires at the former Clearfield Cheese Plant, retiring in 1988 when the company closed. 

She enjoyed crocheting and completing crossword puzzles.  Most of all, she loved playing with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her three children, Carol McCully and her husband, Stephen and Barbara Jenkins and her husband, Andrew, both of Clearfield, and Wallace E. Kowalski Jr. and his wife, Gayle of Aztec, NM; four grandchildren, Jackie Walk, Wallace E. Kowalski III, Zack Jenkins and Zane Jenkins; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Miles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace E. Kowalski Sr., on Nov. 27, 2002. 

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Verda Meekins, Margie Leamer and Maxine Scott and four brothers, Glenn, Donald, Elmer and Robert Kitchen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.  Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Matilda Leskovansky, 87, of Houtzdale died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.

Born in Philipsburg on Sept. 21, 1929, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Earnest) Switala.

She retired from the Moshannon Valley School District where she was employed as a cook for more than 20 years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale.

She enjoyed reading, her grandchildren and baking for her family.

On July 24, 1954 in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Houtzdale, she married Francis P. Leskovansky, who preceded her in death Aug. 8, 2011

She is survived by three sons, Paul Leskovansky and his wife, Diane and Jim Leskovansky and his wife, Jenny, both of Houtzdale, and Mark Leskovansky and his wife, Denise of Wingate and a daughter-in-law, Virginia Leskovansky of Osceola Mills.

She is survived by nine grandchildren, Christina Onuskanich and her husband, Pete of Lock Haven, Francis Paul Leskovansly and his wife, Stephanie of Kylertown, Shawna McCliment and her husband, Brandon of Osceola Mills, Megan Vesnesky and her husband, Joe of Hanover, Md., Mark Leskovansky Jr. and Heather Leskovansky, both of Wingate, Benjamin Leskovansky and his fiancée, Jessa of Snow Shoe and Abby and Alex Leskovansky, both of Houtzdale. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson and great-grandson; six brothers, Joe, Leo, Tom, Sylvester, John and Joe; and four sisters, Frances Danielewiez, Florence Levonick, Kathryn Gomoka and Betty Johnson.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Father Marc Soloman as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.

Father Soloman will hold a vigil prayer service at 6 p.m. and the Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m., both Monday at the funeral home.

Arlene J. Parks, 77, of Drifting died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born June 4, 1939 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah Force Plubell.

On Sept. 22, 1956 in Milesburg, she married the late Nile D. Parks, who preceded her in death Sept. 8, 2003.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Hopkins and her husband, Bill of Morrisdale and Patricia Ann Fauver and her husband, Don of Drifting; sons, David D. Parks of Baltimore, Md., Gary G. Parks and his companion, Leaone Crock of Show Shoe and Ron Parks and his wife, Janice of Selinsgrove; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her brothers, Robert Plubell of Houtzdale and Alfred Plubell of York.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne L. Parks; a grandson, Ronald Brady; and sisters, Betty Tressler and Mary Quick.

She was a homemaker and loved to bake, especially bread and rolls. She loved to watch her birds and enjoyed westerns and classic TV.

A memorial service will be held at the Snow Shoe EMS, 492 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe, with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Askey Cemetery, Moshannon.

There will be no public visitation.

Charles T. Wheeler III, 49, of Lilly, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Born May 25, 1967 in Altoona, he was the son of Charles T. “Pete” Wheeler Jr. and Linda (Doyle) Wheeler of Lilly, Pa. 

He married Carol (Redzensky) Wheeler, formerly of Ramey, Pa., on May 20, 2000 in Hollidaysburg, Pa. She survives at home.

Mr. Wheeler was a 1985 graduate of the Penn Cambria High School and received an Associate’s degree in forestry from the Allegany College of Maryland. He was a forestry technician.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Vera C. Doyle; paternal grandmother and grandfather, Genevieve and Charles (Chal) Wheeler Sr.; his uncle, Robert “Wolf” Doyle; and his best friend, Thaddeus “Ted” Dombrosky.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by twin daughters, Ashley and Valerie Cerwensky of Portage, Pa.; one sister, Jessica (Wheeler) Dupirack and her husband, Dave of Cresson, Pa.; and one brother, Chris Wheeler of Duncansville, Pa. 

He is also survived by his aunts, Antoinette “Toni” Doyle and Mary Lou Behe and her husband, Jerry, both of Lilly, Pa., Margie Stercho of Mililani, Hawaii, Kathy Proudfit and her husband, Russ of Beaufort, SC and Mary Lovlie and her husband, Arne of New Castle, Pa; his uncles, Paul Doyle and his wife, Mary of Loretto, Pa., and Bruce Wheeler and his wife, Cheryl Wheeler of Lilly, Pa.; and many cousins, friends and neighbors.

At the request of Mr. Wheeler, there will be no viewing or funeral service. There will be a celebration of life scheduled sometime in the future.

Charles “Chick”   Irwin, 78, of Irvona died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at his residence.       

Born Jan. 2, 1939 in Glen Hope, he was the son of Jessie James Irwin and Zella Elizabeth (Dotts) Irwin. He was married to Verna (Bishop) Irwin.

Mr. Irwin worked for C Classic Dodge as a salesman.

He’s survived by his wife; two daughters-in-law, Debbie Irwin and Chris Irwin; daughters, Lisa Conroy and her husband, Christopher and Sherri Thomas; brother, James Irwin and his wife, Rosella; sister, Norma Irvine; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and Charles; and three sisters, Marie, Grace and Carolyn.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Glen Hope United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Paul Fields officiating.

Mackenzie L.  Dickinson, 6, of Clearfield died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.    

Mackenzie was born Oct. 20, 2010 in Altoona, a daughter of William Dickinson of Coalport and Katherine Link of Clearfield.  Both of Mackenzie’s parents survive.

Mackenzie was a kindergarten student and attended the Curwensville Elementary School.

In addition to her mom and dad, she is survived by her grandparents, Roger and Sharon Dickinson of Coalport and Charles and Joyce Link of Irvona.

Friends and family will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., 91 Rose St., Irvona. 

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home and will be officiated by Pastor Richard Maher.

Mackenzie will be buried at the Fruit Hill Cemetery, Ansonville.

Jeffrey N. Baney, 61, of West Decatur died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 in Decatur Township.

Born Jan. 2, 1956 in Philipsburg, he was the son of Durrel and Mona (Dixon) Baney of West Decatur. 

He married Susan R. (Dinant) Baney on Oct. 14, 1978 in Philipsburg. She survives at home.

Mr. Baney was of the Christian faith.

He was employed as a Boggs Township Supervisor and graduated from the Philipsburg-Osceola Mills High School in the class of 1974.  He was a member of the World Tang Soo Do Association.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by one daughter Shawnna Baney-Shaw and her husband, Ethan of West Decatur and two grandchildren, Callen and Bronson Shaw.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Timothy Richmond officiating.  Burial will be at the Reedy Cemetery in Wallaceton.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12 p.m. Thursday until the funeral time at the funeral home.

Evelyn J. Shimmel, 85, of Phillipsburg died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.

Born April 16, 1931 in Bigler, she was the daughter of the late Braden and Martha (Stevens) Woodside. 

She married Harry D. Shimmel on June 6, 1949 in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Shimmel was a 1949 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. She was a retired cake decorator for the former Riverside and Bi-Lo grocery stores in Phillipsburg and Clearfield and Hall’s IGA in Snow Shoe.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Ann Sortman and a son- and daughter-in-law, Donald T. Shimmel and his wife, Andrea.

She is survived by one son, John M. Shimmel and his wife, Kathy of Osceola Mills; four grandchildren, Mike Shimmel and his wife, Laura, Jeff Shimmel and his wife, Jodi, Brayden Sortman and Kristine Santangelo and her husband, Anthony; and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Shimmel and Madison and Emily Santangelo.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.  Burial will be at the Reidy Cemetery in Wallaceton.

Bruce Charles Sample, 70, of Bigler died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

About our father: On this day, we lost a man who helped sculpt us, loved us, cared for us and taught us. He was the smartest man we knew and he is not replaceable. What the truest tragedy will be if we forget what he did while he was here with us. This man was our father!

Be strong through tears of remembrance and feel with the drops that they are God’s way of showing you just how much love there is.

Born Dec. 9, 1946 in Clearfield, he was the son of the late Bruce Clair and Betty Ellinger Sample.

He was the husband of Patricia E. Archer Sample for more than 32 years and she survives him in Bigler.

Also surviving are his daughters, Melissa Hemphill and her companion, Scott Reed of DuBois, Kara Willett and her husband, Randy of West Decatur and Rebecca Sample and her companion, Adam Dixon of Philipsburg; son, Brian Krupa and his wife, Vicki of Kent, Ohio; step-son, David Krupa and his wife, Brenda of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Hope Sample of Jersey Shore and brothers, Thomas Sample and his wife, Penny of Jersey Shore and Kenneth Sample, Anchorage, Alaska.

He was a 1966 graduate of the Clearfield High School. He was a member of the American Legion, Clearfield Post No. 6. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a sergeant during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1972.

He received the National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Star, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, a Combat Action Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Chapel of Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with Brother David Krupa officiating. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.

Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Earl Lewis “Hoop” Shaffer, 84, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1932 in Clearfield, he was the son of Clair H. and Laura J. (Selfridge) Shaffer.

Mr. Shaffer was the owner/operator of Shaffer Radio and TV Service for more than 50 years.  He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was affiliated with “The Bridge” in the Target Square of Clearfield.

He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion Post 6, Clearfield; the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department, Third Ward; and the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Department, Station 5. He was a lifetime volunteer for the Clearfield County Fair.

Surviving are two sisters, Edith Fleming of Clearfield and Marjorie Lamkie of Glen Campbell. Also surviving are special friends, James and Justine Ogden and Larry and Susan Schultz, both of Clearfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray Shaffer; and two sisters, Dorothy Rocek and Emma Jane Shaffer.

Funeral services for Mr. Shaffer will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield, with the Rev. Scott Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.

The family suggests contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lucy Weisgarber, 92, of Hyde died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2016 at Mountain Laurel Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

She was born in New York City to Antonio and Antoinette (Stratta) Battistella. She was the last of her generation.

She is survived by two sons, John Weisgarber Jr. and his wife, Sharon and Dennis Weisgarber and his fiancée, Tammy Wallace, one granddaughter, Melissa Bloom and her husband, Shawn and two great-grandsons, Shae and Cross Bloom, all of Curwensville. She is also survived by three nieces of New York.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert H. (Beetle) Weisgarber; and long-time, friend Sally Anderson.

At one time, she owned Lucy’s Beer Distributing on Spruce Street and worked in food preparation and housekeeping services.

She was a Christian by faith.

There will be no public services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Radomsky, 87, of Minneapolis, Minn., and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at the Minnesota Veterans Home of Minneapolis.

The eldest of three children, he was born Sept. 2, 1929 in Osceola Mills to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Yasovsky) Radomsky Sr.

He studied mining-engineering at Penn State University, graduating in 1951.

On Aug. 30, 1952, he and Marie Shufran of Philipsburg were married.

He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War after which he embarked on a varied career as a businessman and entrepreneur.

Between 1953 and 1972, Mr. Radomsky worked in the sales and marketing division of Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria.

In 1966-67, he was awarded a corporate Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a Master’s in marketing.

Between 1972 and 1980, he was a vice president of the Koehring Corp., a crane manufacturer, in Milwaukee.

Throughout his career, he traveled widely, with many trips to Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East.

After 1980, he owned a trenching business in Austin, Texas, and he helped develop some of the earliest asphalt-recycling machinery.

A man of considerable scientific ability, Mr. Radomsky was involved in the manufacture of chromo-spectrographs at Scientific Systems Inc., in State College and worked as a consultant to innovative technologies in his retirement years.

In 1990, he moved back to his native Pennsylvania, where he and his wife cared for their aging relatives and lived happily until relocating to Minneapolis for health reasons in 2013.

Born into the orthodox Christian faith, in adulthood Mr. Radomsky was an active Episcopalian, serving on the vestries of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Peoria, All Saints Cathedral in Milwaukee and St. Paul’s Church in Philipsburg.

Soulful and energetic, he was an avid wine collector, chef, gardener and Oriental-rug fancier. He was a devoted and much beloved son, husband and father.

Surviving Mr. Radomsky are his wife, Marie; a brother, William Radomsky of Delta, Pa.; four children, Lisa Redomsky of Venice, Fla., Mark Radomsky and his wife, Ernestine of Palatine, Ill., Susan (Mrs. Robert L. Barsy) of Chicago, Ill., and Mary (Mrs. Miguel Gaytan) of Minneapolis, Minn., and six grandchildren, Cynthia Weiler, Julia Weiler, Austin Radomsky, Briana Radomsky, Alicia Gaytan and Elias Gaytan.

In addition to his parents, a brother, Joseph Radomsky Jr. preceded him in death.

Mr. Radomsky’s remains, which were cremated following a visitation in Minneapolis on Dec. 20, have been transported to Pennsylvania for burial.

A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills.

A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Philipsburg with the Rev. Father Robert McKay IV and the Rev. Father William Walker co-celebrating. The burial will follow at the Ashcroft Cemetery in Hawk Run.

Military honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.

Lenore Anne McDonald, 82, of Grampian went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born July 7, 1934 in Clearfield, the daughter of E. Millard Sr. and Goldie F. (Adams) Wall. 

Mrs. McDonald was a homemaker and also had clerked for the former Brody’s in DuBois and Clearfield, Leitzinger’s of Clearfield, Montgomery Ward of DuBois, JCPenney and Goodwill.

She was a lifetime member of the Grampian Church of God and was an avid crocheter, reader, painter and a lover of all animals.  She was a loving wife, devoted mother and a doting grandmother. 

On Jan. 24, 1951 in Five Points, Pa., she wed Gerald Dickerson “Dick” McDonald, and they would have been celebrating their upcoming 66th wedding anniversary this month. 

Also surviving are four daughters, Rhonda Bash and her husband, Mike, Tracy Rowles and her husband, Ron, Jill McDonald and Pastor Leslie Bloom and her husband, Sherman, all of Grampian.

In addition, there are seven grandchildren, Matt Bash and his wife, Heather, Kasey Butler and her husband, Tim, Ryan Verelli and his wife, Jessica, Nichole Parrish and her husband, Jason, Marc Bloom, Brett Bloom and Meg Bloom as well as 10 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Daniscsak; and a brother, E. Millard Wall Jr.

Funeral Services for Mrs. McDonald will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grampian Church of God, Route 219 North Grampian, with Mr. James Thorp officiating.  Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.

Darryl “Wayne” Caldwell, 70, of Houtzdale died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. 

Born July 28, 1946 in Philipsburg, he was the son of John Jr. and Sylvia (Olson) Caldwell.

He was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Clearfield.  Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Madera Moose and the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post No. 6321, Smithmill.      

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed Pittsburgh and Penn State sports. He was employed as a production supervisor for FCI Electronics, Clearfield, until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ann (Hahn) Caldwell at home; two sons, Daniel (Kim) Caldwell of Ramey and Shawn (Nicole) Caldwell of Houtzdale; and three grandchildren, Maddison and Abigail Caldwell of Ramey and Sara Caldwell of Houtzdale.

He is survived by five step-children, Anna (Kevin) Grunklee of Minnesota, Lisa Ogden of Virginia, Dana St. Clair of Florida, Clorise Ogden of Rockton and Trent Ogden of Madera and a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Elaine Tice of Houtzdale and Charmaine Swabick of Moshannon.     

Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.   Burial will follow in the Beulah cemetery, Ramey.

Margaret M. Ciocarello Longo, 93, of DuBois died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born Jan. 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Carmella (Flamio) Camise.

She was married to Jim Ciocarello.  He preceded her in death in 1972.  In 1975, she married Joseph J. Longo.  He preceded her in death, as well.

She retired from Rola Jensen in Punxsutawney.  Prior to that, she worked at Jeffers Electronics in DuBois for many years. 

She was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in DuBois. She was a member of the Punxsutawney Area Polka Club, also known as the Groundhog Polka Club. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood, Princess Marie Lodge.

She is survived by a son, James Ciocarello of DuBois; two step-children, Carol Schultz of Punxsutawney and Joseph Longo of Meadville; and one sister, Louise Camise of DuBois.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Dominic and John Camise and one sister, Ann Beningo.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Alexandria Lynn “Alex” Kent, 23, of DuBois died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 in Carnegie, Pa.

She was born May 14, 1993 in Escondido, Calif. She is the daughter of Christina Loweranitis of DuBois and Leroy J. Kent of Clearfield.

She was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School. She enjoyed painting, reading, jogging and playing with her nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by two sisters, Cassandra J. Kent and her friend, Walter Burham of Falls Creek and Courtney J. (Ryan) Koch of DuBois; a brother, Coty Loweranitis and his friend, Rachael Sherwood of Penfield; maternal grandma, Rita Logue of DuBois and paternal grandma, Helen Jean Kent of Brockway; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Logue and paternal grandfather, Robert Kent.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Monday at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois.
